That is the minimum.
Think we are going to need a bigger chalet. When are we going?
to be honest you lot could probably have quite a cheap holiday if you were prepared to pay the full price up front and then afterwards ask for compensation on the grounds your holiday had been ruined by us.0 -
I couldn't afford over £500 .... probably £600 by the time you've arrived at the door .... and then having to share a room with one of you lot (or, worse, one of Chewy's lot!!)
A holiday, for me, would cost tops £200. Preferably £150.... or less.
I sleep so badly that the other night, at 4.30am, the kitchen tap let out a series of 12 drips ... and I was wide awake and in the kitchen finding out what it was doing ....... I don't sleep well in new environments either, so it'd be a rough week for me.
As a kid, my parents used to have to stay awake the first night of any caravan holiday - as I used to climb the walls and try to get out.0 -
Don't worry - the other 11 in Chewie's chalet will book 3 days before and only pay £200 each
(Remember I used to be a Chalet 'Girl')

I expect if they built these in the UK they would build them in a southern floodplain. You'd have to then get an easyjet flight to the ski areas and probably arrive at Glasgow Prestwick just in time to miss the last four-hour bus to the highlands.

yeah i know, but at least this way we get a good location in a resort we all want to go to, rather than having to go wherever the late deals are, potentially ending up in a badly located place in a resort we don't like. i'd be happy with that personally, as i spend the whole week pickled on booze and don't notice sub-standard accomodation, bad food, or the walk back, but others in our group are much more highly strung.
the late season long weekend ski trip will definitely be booked last minute!0 -
I worked in Val but my inside knowledge may be a little (20 years!) out of date.
I have also boarded Ishgl and can recommend it for a good, large resort that isn't to well known.I think....0 -
what's so enjoyable about skiing anyways? you get wet and cold and fall down in the snow. You also might injure yourself and you have to wait a long time to go uphill to go down a hill quickly.0

like any other sport, doing something reasonably competently gives you a sense of satisfaction. skiing down a hill is fun in the same way that e.g. riding a bike down a hill is fun. and you need a rest when you get to the bottom, and there are worse places to have a rest than sitting in a chair looking at some alpine winter scenery.
combine that with irresponsible drinking afterwards and it's a perfect combo.0 -
Generally the waiting is only at the airport these days. Sometimes the sun shines and it looks picturesque and with a bit of practice you spend less time falling over and getting wet. And there is always ducking out of the blizzard into a cosy hostelry to discuss your exploits over a glass of mulled wine. Plus did I mention the chalet girls...
