Afternoon all! Am just back from my first Olympic event, the archery at Lords. I didn't realise that archery had been there before, in 1844...
Got off the tube at St Johns Wood to be immediately greeted by enthusiastic volunteer Games Makers who helped us find our way to the ground. They had big pink foam hands that pointed our way to the venue and were lovely. Once inside, we were greeted by the armed forces who saw us safely into the venue, alongside one gum-chewing surly person, who I believe may have been from G4S.
Inside it was fun, there was an area where kids could try archery under extremely-well supervised conditions. The stands were on the hallowed turf and we were able to walk out onto Lords. My cheap seat was directly adjacent to the Pavillion, quite unlike cricket I would imagine. Weather was wonderful, started raining only when we got to tube station.
London Calling seemed to be the theme tune to the games and all of the tunes walked out to the tune. Unfortunately GB women's team, who had a good lead at one point, didn't make it through to the next stage. Unlike China. The last woman had to get a 10 to win - the maximum score - which she did. Followed by much cheering. As we were leaving she walked through the crowd and everyone stopped to applaud which was great and very sporting. On the way out there was free admission to the Lord's Museum, so we went to see the Ashes. I don't like cricket, but it was interesting to see them first hand (especially as I didn't have to sit through a cricket match).
Overall a fun morning out seeing something I wouldn't normally go to see. Thanks to the Games Makers and the good gents from Paderborn, Germany, for looking after us. Any news on what Heathrow's like for Tuesday?
Oh. I have a friend who lives in that area. I thought it was alright when I went to visit her a couple of years ago. I must have lower standards! :rotfl:0 -

Can I join this thread, I am nice! lol
You're very welcome on this thread Middymum. You may find it a more agreeable spot than some of the other ones you're familiar with. Even if you don't like mushrooms. For all the others who cheated and used google, your punishment is to find out how many body parts have a three-letter name. You don't need google for this!
Keep it clean!
That isn't an entry requirement that you answer this, but I think you'd probably manage to get into double figures! There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Hello Silvercar
I am very sorry to hear of your loss.
It is very early days so it is hard to be fine all of the time. The finality of it and the reality of the gap in your everyday life is a lot to absorb.
Take care

Not everyones 'cup of tea' but I love it and have watched England home and away, to every Test playing nation! Later this year I'll be watching England in India for the fourth time!
Glad you enjoyed the Archery, I had a great time at the Beach Volleyball yesterday morning. You'll have a great time there, I thought it would take ages to get in, but it ended up being a doddle. Our seats were 15 rows from the front, so great view. Don't know what the cheaper seats (at the back) were like, but should imagine still OK.
I've got tickets for the Athletics wednesday week, for the evening, and looks like I should pick up a few extra events as well :j0 -

I wasn't going to cheat by using google, but did decide to wait until DH came in so I can ask him:o. He'll know the answer off the top of his head, whereas I have trouble even knowing what's an element and what's a compound. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
