I did the same when a doughnut shop opened in the town I passed through on my way to school. It was awesome - they only sold doughnuts, about 30 flavours - and with a full length window building front to back I'd walk past and could see the man popping two doughnuts at a time onto the jam-squirting machine..... awesome. Never did ever buy one...

So, my daddy is gonna buy me a dishwasher as we no longer have hot water to the kitchen sink. (i love my temporary kitchen though). Eventually i want the dishwasher integral in an island, so presumably that means i buy that sort with no proper door now? It will be some time...years even, before it goes into the island, but i dpubt its somethong that needs relacing often? I am thinking miele but not sure. ( i want the flat cutlery tray at the top, nopt the basket at the bottom and that is more important than make to me. )

Any thing else i should be looking at with a dishwasher?

If you put the dishwasher under an island, will you be able to walk around it while its open, or will it block pathways? I would have though a dishwasher coming out from the island would be a more tripping hazard than one along a wall.

Stating the obvious, but wherever the dishwasher is you need a water supply, my island is a granite slab with cupboards underneath there are plug points on the back wall of the cupboards, but an electricity wire is easier to feed underground than a water pipe. If the only reason to feed water to the island is for the dishwasher, it would be a lot less faff to site the dishwasher somewhere else.

Sink and dishwasher are both going to be on the island. :). Not a faff when there is a digger coming in to rip up the floor in any case:eek: not a significant extra faff. After a lot of deliberation pn is not going to like the kitchen design because of island sink, and it is a bit of a triumph of aesthetics (well, i hope) that made this the acceptable compromise. I would have prefered an island like pn would have wanted...clear, but its going to be the only worksurface clutter at all eventually, so i can live with it.

So yes, will be a faff, but will only be open when loading and unloading, and will not need to be walked around to put things away or in washer.

I am taking a radical step to have nothing but a fridge on any side wall. This has been planned replanned and yes, i could get more in with a u shaped kitchen with an island running other way, but......this is the 'look' i want, its not going to look much like a kitchen. More a room you can cook in, than a room that only exists for cooking iyswim.

It's your choice... you're the one that's going to have to live with it for the next 40-50 years.

    :)

For sinks, I like those half-depth Belfast sinks - plenty of room for rinsing/soaking big things. I hate the way it's almost impossible in modern kitchens to wash out the big pans and dishes etc....

I also like the concept of those One-and-a-half sinks... where you get a sink, but a smaller one at the side for rinsing etc when the main one's full of things in soak/whatever.... like when you've got the roast spuds dish in soak and are now trying to drain the veggies.

They seem to do one-and-a-half Belfasts.... http://www.sinks-taps.com/sinkstapsimages/medium/edgworth%20detail.jpg - but I think that looks like an animal feeding trough rather than a lifestyle choice :)
