We all agree that there are an infinite number of whole numbers. If you think of the gaps between the whole numbers, there are an infinite number of fractions ("rational numbers") in between. Rational numbers are fractions that can be made up from integers, like 1/2 or 3/4.

The rational numbers are 'countable'. In other words, you can order them in a particular way, so that you can go through the list and will eventually get to every rational number that can exist. (See picture below.)

So, even though there are lots more rational numbers than integers, both sets are countable.

Pi is a different sort of number that is called irrational. It cannot be expressed as a fraction involving whole numbers, and it has an infinite number of digits. The irrationals are not countable, so in that sense their infiniteness is different from integers and rational numbers.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

It was lovely from 6am to about 11ish.... it's been raining since. Made a hair appointment .... sucked up the high price for now because getting it done is more important than how much I pay for the privilege. I've time to suss out cheaper places in the next 2 months. Right now having better hair will make me more likely to feel like going out, will make me feel more presentable in job interviews.... so price is a secondary issue.

It's nice to be tight, but I'm lucky to have a few spare bob to be able to just grin and bear the cost.

A very positive post from you PN. Glad to hear you sounding more relaxed.

I don't get westfield. For the 'posh' shops why not go theroper versions of them? Why put them in shepards bush?

Fwiw i know a few peoplein retail who do not 'get' westfield either. I have not been there fwiw. Maybe it would make sense if i saw it.

    westfield is ok.

basically it is a big square containing mostly "normal high street" shops and dept stores. there are a few ludicrous shops in the main bit but not that many. basically it's a bit like being on oxford street but not as bad, and you can drive there (although traffic is bad) so you don't have to carry all your bags home (which is why i go there).

there is a little "spur" off the main shopping centre called the village, which has a house of fraser, and about 40 ridiculous shops which all sell ludicrously expensive luxury nonsense. they must be doing business because they are still there, but they contain the sorts of things that it would be cheaper to buy a flight to another country specifically to go and buy the thing there. i expect it is frequented by london based saudis, qataris and russians who have more money than time.

Trouble is, I needed it now... and I'm not familiar with groupon...

Anyway - while I was out I kept an eye out and found one of the local salons saying Models Thursday 1pm.... so in I went. "How much?" I enquired.... £52+£17 she said... "This model thing.... how much?" I enquired .... £27+£8 she said. So I've booked that ... and I'll be cancelling my £45 appointment.

£35's more like it.... and it's closer so I don't have to catch 2 buses - AND - they never said they have to do a skin test first (which I'd have had to have gone all the way across town to have done before Saturday). So that's win/win/win..... and probably a 4th win in there.

Some firms do. Ii worked in one IT Dept that had the cost/hour written on the wall in big numbers. I think it was £100/person/hour.... and that's why a Dept of 20 people would always take priority over one with 10.

One evening I was driving around looking for somewhere to park, but saw troublemakers walking up the road but walking on the bonnets, roofs and boots of the parked cars! Wouldn't park around there if you paid me.
I'm sure a small mod to an electric car could sort those types out...

So .. today I was tourist fail again. Weather-beaten.... I got ready, looked at the clock and thought "bus won't be here for ages... I'll walk". So, 0.66 miles later (I've checked with the google pedometer).... I was cold, sodden and my jeans were wet up to my knees.... my plastic mac was skin coloured as the rain had got right through and it was sticking to me.

So, there goes Plan B, which was to catch a bus at the changeover point and mosy on into town..... I was cold, wet, sodden..... so I walked twice round the block and decided to find the library. Found that, all 20' square of it ... and decided it must be bus time.... bus passed me as I walked out the door. So, next bus missed, I had a choice of standing in the rain/cold for 30 minutes or walking, checked the time and walked it. 15 minutes it took (fast strolling/not really trying to go fast). Home now... hungry, cold, sodden.

    :)
