You have had a non-macro answer, which I am sure is best in this case.
For future reference, the way I usually do macros is to use the 'Record new macro' facility. Then press Alt-F11 to bring up the VBA editor and edit the macro to do what I want, eg in this case, generalise the cell range and add some 'if ... then... else' statements. Macros are so helpful that it is worth learning, and you may as well start with a simple example like this one. The trouble is that people are so pressured to get the job done that they don't have time to learn new ways to do it better.I might have a play because conditional formatting is not doing it right....
I get cells with the wrong colour and I want a colour gradient...
There should be a conditional formatting option for a colour gradient.
I agree it's worth learning how to do macros - I use them all the time. Missk - did you do any programming earlier in your scientific career? If so, you'll probably find writing macros is something you can pick up quite easily. VBA is a form of Basic, so if any of your programming was in Basic, then you'll be off to even more of a head start.I had a feeling very attractive, feminine and sexy night last night.....I wore a girly dress :rotfl:
It was my parent's 52nd wedding anniversary yesterday and we all went out for a meal, so I dressed up. The boys were most surprised to see me in a dress as I have not had the confidence to wear dresses for many years but it felt completely right last night.
Mind you, maybe my recent feeling of being a little bit attractive comes from meeting up with an old friend who used to fancy the pants off me....and still does, even with the added years, different hair colour to cover the grey and more than a few extra pounds (I was less than a size 8 when he fancied the pants off me before!)
Yay! Go Sue. You are a woman, as well as a mother.
Is there any chance of seeing a bit more of the old friend any time soon????Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Spread sheets always did make me shudder. I used to try and get someone else to do them.
I think i would cry now if i tried to do one, lol. Dh hates 'em too.0 -
Dodgy ll court case update.
.
He didn't pay the agreed settle ment so it was in court today again. They wanted to back track and take back the settlement and have more witnesses. Apparantly the judge was frustrated but unpreppared for the lack of payment because it had all been agreed. Ll now says he cannot even aford to eat. We have now been advised to start long and comicated proceedure to put a charge on the property for the original amount we were claiming for. We will wait to see what the judge says.0 -

The real difficulty for me was not in the programming but in getting to grips with the Excel object model. For example, to reference a single cell, the simplest way is to use 'range'. It's not obvious.
I reckon that most people could get an awful lot of benefit from learning a little bit about VBA without becoming experts. You only need to know about 10% of what it can do to be able to do what you need nearly all the time. It's probably just as well you only need to know 10%, as excel is a programme that looks simple at first glance but has hidden depths. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
By the way, one of my most productive macros ever was only a few lines. It let me use the same spreadsheet to make 600 complicated calculations for 600 clients and summarise the results, with 'the click of a button' as they say.
Public Sub DoAllCalcs()
For JJ = 1 To 600 ' Use 1 for first case, up to no. of cases
Sheets("Basic Info").Range("C1").Value = JJ
Sheets("ResultsList").Range("B" & JJ + 3).Value = Sheets("Summary").Range("C4")
Sheets("ResultsList").Range("C" & JJ + 3).Value = Sheets("Summary").Range("C25")
Next
End SubNo reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Shiite hit the fan today unexpectedly .... due to my homelessness... so I have to hang around another week or more in order to prove I have an address.... it's all too complex to explain here .... and I am !!!!!!' annoyed as fook right now. Bottom line is: house money in cheques in my hand, can't bank them anywhere as I don't have an address (and a little more complexity, but that's pretty much the bottom line/biggest hurdle).0
