For theatre trips we hire a mini bus if there is enough of us. Train fare would be £8 (all zones one day travel card) and more hassle. 8 of us in a minibus at £10 each is a lot less hassle.

I think the local taxi rate has a min fare of £3.50 during the day/ £4 week ends and £5 for lates. A few of the very rich kids have had cab accounts with named drivers from about the age of 14.

I still have no clue what you do for a living, CK .
First I thought you were the Georgian Pete Waterman, music impresario, involved in Eurovision and promotion and production and such...
Then you run a cab fleet...
Or maybe I got it all wrong - again. :o

    Rural living, innit.

We are three, four miles from railway station, and twelve or fifteen squids......
    You're rural.
    I am rural and remote.
Within 20 miles you have access to one of the largest cities in the UK.... for me that's a daytrip and 200-300 mile round trip to get access to choice.

I was going to try to transfer my skillset from IT projects to Events Management just over a year ago. I got "awarded" some free training, from some funding - but that never materialised. The deal was that I had to contact the training company and book the course - I did that and they wanted a Purchase Order number from the Council here. I managed to get that, phoned up to give the PO number .... and never heard another thing and nobody could chase it for me. Council weren't interested, trainers weren't interested.... and that was right about the time (last year) that all my annus horribilis stuff kicked off big time, so I wasn't in a position to chase it up anyway.

I knew a 17 year old girl, who lives in Herts, who was paid £10/hour JUST to hand out free goody bags at an event!!!!! Where I live you'd need a degree, 5 years' experience and be a fully qualified professional in a public sector job to be getting that much! All she had was big baps.

Just seen somebody I used to know on the news on the telly - tagged as "resident" at that flooded place in North Wales. You don't expect to see people you know on the telly (except Crimewatch maybe).

Yep, best ( and some worst) of both here. We are very lucky :). Less than twenty miles i think, but feels ages and ages away. Bath is just a hop skip and a jump though....but takes ages because of traffic. I might try going on the train next time. Much easier...unless i am having an ouch day...and thats the sort of thing that can happen while i am out if i am fine serting off, so thats why i hesitate. But thinking, in my quest for a hairsresser, that might be the next best step.

Ofcourse, i am same distance in time from salisbury too. Where the parking is more civilised but not sure whether the heairdressers would be. I really like salisbury, a lot. It still feels a little less.......global. Just a bit.

In fact, quite few big places within what i think of as 'reach'
