I think Tesco are being terrible here. The only reason it was not brought back in the 7 day window was because it was a birthday present. mised by 2 days. They can do it but choose not to.

How is that terrible ? they give you 7 days and you missed it. Why should you be given extra consideration just because it was a birthday gift?

As far as I am concerned my wife was mis-sold a 2 year contract by Tesco. The salesman should have at let pointed out the enormous fact there is no coverage at our home address.

There are many factors that can effect the signal of mobile phones, so there coverage maps will only give a rough idea of the signal within the area.
Its possible for 1 house to have no signal but all the neighbours having a really strong signal. Its not something anyone can predict without actually testing it out first

I would agree, where would the OP want the cut off to be? The government decided 7 working days was good enough for DSR so a retailer offering the same or similar for a return outside of statutory rights seems reasonable.

This OP might want 14 days for birthday presents, the next person will want 28 days, the one after than 6 months, the one after that 12 months....Where would it end?

Surely it would be reasonable for the OP to check the signal in those first 7 days? Even with a free PAYG sim if they didn't want to activate the contract sim in the box before the gift was given.

If all else fails ask for a home signal box. it boosts your signal via your broadband - that's what i had to do
