Oops, got sacked.

I've been sacked (my own fault - IT abuse at work), and am wondering about benefits etc.

I understand since it was my fault I can't claim anything at all. Of course I'm looking for a job now, but that won't help with this months bills (mortgage etc).

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I think you should be able to claim Benefits if entitled.
You haven't left work voluntarily & didn't do it deliberately.

Best thing is to make claim to get things rolling.

Ps: this is 3rd thread in last few weeks regarding alleged IT abuse at work !!

    You should claim JSA however..

There is every liklehood that you will have a sanction as your job ended due to Misconduct. This is treated the same as leaving voluntarily as far as the reason for the Job Ending and could lead to a 26 week sanction.

JSA may be awarded initially, but once the Decision Maker makes their decision, any suspension will take place immediately.

You should however continue to sign on if you are still unemployed, available and actively seeking work to ensure that your stamps are paid.

No one here can advise that, talk to your IT dept or boss, every company is different.

I'm afraid that you will be unlikely to get help with your mortgage. Could I ask more about your circumstances - when you took the mortgage out? Do you have any dependents?

  • Yolu should claim Jobseekers Allowance(JSA). If you get sanctioned as mentioned above for misconduct you can appply for hardship payments of income based JSA which is payable a reduced rate subject to any income/capital you may have.

Every workplace is different and has different email and internet policies. We are constantly getting reminded about the policy at work and recently I found out about someone who had been warned 2 or 3 times about sending funnies. He eventually got investigated, disciplined and got fined £500! He won't be misusing the email system now!

    Hi,
I have a wife. She only works 2 hours a day, 5 days a week - just above minimum wage.

Oh, I'm also studying with the OU for a degree - quite a lot (90 "points") but not quite "full time" - if that makes any difference.

I'm so glad I don't have a job that involves IT anymore. My previous job did and I was hauled before the big boss once along with a few other people due to inappropriate emails that I had viewed and passed on. Got away with it though!

Did you take out your mortgage before 1995? If so, you may be able to get some help towards your mortgage interest after eight weeks.

If you took out your mortgage after 1995, then I'm afraid you have to wait 39 weeks. Crazy I know.
