Dont know if this will work but hey got nothing to lose.
Do as i said ealier
C:\Documents and Settings\YOURuserNAME\Favorites
replace the red bit with your user account name for windows
you can see all the favourite links.
Now goto tools menu -> Folder options -> click on View
make sure Remember each folder's view settings is ticked -> click on OK
right click on a blank bit of the favourites folder and click on arrange icon by then select auto arrange.
if this works i will be amazed.0 -

I'm a bit confused as well.
To organise your folders: click favourites, then right click anywhere in the box and click sort by name,
to organise the contents of a folder: open the folder, then right click anywhere within folder and click sort by name.
Thanks frugal. Unfortunately right clicking anywhere in the box doesn't bring up sort by name! It brings up: expand, create new folder, explore, open, browse with paintshop, search, sharing & security, (stops for breath!) scan with AVG, send to, cut, copy, rename and properties - but no sort by name! Help!0 -
Has this problem with Favourites always been there or has it just started happening? If it's just recent you could try 'Restore' to revert to before it started happening.
Thanks libra. It was fine for about 3 months when I first got the pc. Then it stopped organising the folders. Then after about 6 months it suddenly re-organised them again, but just once! The problem has been going on for ages now, so unfortunately its too late to Restore (as I'd lose a lot of downloaded stuff that I want to keep).0 -
Hi,
I think you are in the wrong box, you've got to click favourites first.0 -

Cheers Dr, I'm just off to get some food now, but I'll be back soon and then I'll give it a whirl! Fingers crossed!0 -

I'm back! And I was doing fine till the bit above, that I've highlighted bold. I don't know what you mean by "tick each folder's view setting". There's no sign of anything that matches or comes close to that in the dialogue box! :sad:0 -

Sorry alba, I can't figure out what you mean in your answer either! :rotfl: Could you please explain or could someone else please help? Ta!
Lol, I know what you mean, it's so hard to explain!
Just follow the steps I wrote...
Go to start, then on to favourites. Once favourites are open there, right click any where down your favourite list.
A box pops up, on it go to the 2nd bottom option, sort by name & click it. Let me know if I still haven't explained well enough? Or what bit you are stuck at? I am pretty sure this is the answer you are looking for!0 -

Could be wrong, but I think it only works inside the fav folder, but not when you are looking at favs from start or on IE.0 -

Thanks alba. So how do I get inside the fav folder?! :rotfl: Please help!
Edit: Looks like alba's had enough for tonight! Don't blame you! If anyone can offer any more help this evening, I'd really appreciate it! If not, I'll give it a bump tomorrow and see if I can get the problem fixed then! I'm off for a glass of wine! Cheers!0 -
Hi,
can't see why your XP is different,
left click the star for favourites, close all open folders by clicking on folder icon, right click, and you should have sort by name under create new folder.0
