A few years ago I test drove a new Aygo and I could feel every bump in the road. I ended up buying a 4 year old Hyundai Getz the one the i10 has replaced and it was so much smoother, great decision. Toyota's are reliable but expensive. The less prestigious Hyundai's are probably better value for money.

There is a review of both cars here as part of their top ten city cars

I would say the i20 replaced the Getz. I have a Getz,(hence user name:D) wish they still made them.

I've had 3 Corsas, all from new. I now have an Aygo.

I love it, i wouldn't buy a Corsa again, they're far heavier on petrol than the Aygo. My son has a C1, he loves his car too. They're so much more economical.

    I have a 1.4l corsa (61 plate) as a hire car.

It is the worst car I have ever driven, and that includes history such as a fiat tipo, Rover 100, Daewoo Lanos, VW Polo, hyundai accent, kia pride.

I hate the way it feels like a 1.0 - theres literally no power
I hate the flat spot at 2000rpm
    I hate the indicators
I hate the stupid DRLs which can't be turned off, so I look like one of them tw@ts who forget to switch their lights off
I hate the position of the head light switch - why put it next to your !!!!!! knee?
    I hate the concrete seats
I hate the fact the steering wheel doesn't feel connected to the wheels
I hate the way the doors are angeled, so if you try and rush/jump in to the car, it stabs you in the neck requiring hospital treatment
I hate the oversized gear knob, makes me feel like a hobbit
I hate the fact the car behind probably thinks I'm stupid enough to spend £12k on a new corsa
I hate the 'double locking' so you have to unlock twice(!!) if you want a passenger to get in. I'm told its to stop rapists getting in the car, but to be honest, if they saw the sh*tty dashboard they'd run a mile
I therefore hate the cheap shiny plastic, sun reflects off it blinding you
I hate the sound, or lack of rather, of the engine

    The brakes are OK though.
  • I've said it before and I'll say it again - Fiat Panda.
In the right colour (not the horrible custard yellow my wife bought!) it looks quite nice, practicality is its middle name, a bit plasticky inside but feels solid - read some of the reviews for the 2004+ Panda and you'll see it comes out pretty well.

My wife's car is happy to cruise on the motorway, it's not quick but none of these cars are.

Basic ones don't have a split rear seat, so if it's critical that you have one you might have to shop around.

The Multijet diesel is highly regarded but naturally costs a bit more - the engine, incidentally, is the same as the one in the diesel Corsa.
