Hyundai I10 or Toyota Aygo/Pug 107/Citroen C1

A few years ago I test drove a new Aygo and I could feel every bump in the road. I ended up buying a 4 year old Hyundai Getz the one the i10 has replaced and it was so much smoother, great decision. Toyota's are reliable but expensive. The less prestigious Hyundai's are probably better value for money.

Looking at that reminded me the VW up is worth a look. I wouldn't touch the up however, but the Seat Mii is out in a few weeks, made on the same line, same factory that produce the vw badge version, but looks so much better, and a better price. There's a skoda badged version as well. But it's actually priced higher than the vw at the moment, and it looks like a skoda unfortunately.0 -
I took a C1 up to the highlands two winters ago.
Way too small inside, even for a tiny thing like me. You really feel it if your doing above 60 mph - quite shaky and engine sounds awful. You also feel every pothole (there were a lot of them!).
Future BIL has an I10, he's 6ft5 and fits perfectly and there's plenty of room in the back as well. I've been a passenger in it doing 80 mph, and it felt fine. I'd go with the I10.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -

Must be cheap to run (Toyota Aygo etc do more mpg but do they cost more in servicing, parts etc - we keep reading in reviews that bits fall off regularly!)
She will be driving 22 miles a day along a fairly straight A road and occasionally at weekends.
As these cars are small must have split rear seat for flexibility
Preferably 5 doors but 3 will do
Low insurance group and tax - she's not driven for while and so has no NCD.
Reliable and not too old - she's looking at 2008/09 models.
Below £6,000 for the actual car.
Which would you choose - and any other suggestions are welcome.
Don't just focus on current running costs, depreciation need to be added.
Why not go a bit older and cheaper and use the saving so buy the fuel tax etc and reduced depreciation.
These small cars are popular so have a premium, by looking at others the £1k saved buys a lot of fuel doing 5-7k a year(5k comute + a bit)0 -
But at the end of the ownership, you've still spent as much, had an older car throughout, that may not have been the one you really wanted, and may not have had all the modern toys,0

If its value for money you are after I say the i10.
They are comfortable, reliable and feel bigger than they are and of course have a 5 year warranty so you should get some of it left, you may be able to get a newer i10 than the others0 -
we bought a 60 plate I10 comfort (has A/C. elec windows all round) in silver with 15k on the clock a few weeks ago got £4986 (from a main dealer!).... car is great to drive and cheaper to run (£30 a year road tax, cheaper insurance and a few more MPG) than our previous ford fusion, had the car about four weeks and n0

My OH has had an i10 for three years now. It's a brilliant little car. Now has 11K on it and has loosened up nicely. I don't understand the comment above about handling. Handles very well as far as I'm concerned, unless you intend driving in a manner which really has no place on a public road, and I'm an ex-advanced police driver.0
