Help Windows XP Update repeating

I have 2 computers running Windows XP set to Auto Update. Yesterday I received 3 new updates on both machines and they downloaded and installed and I watched them through and nothing unusual occurred. Hit the finish button (it did not ask me to re-boot). Within 10 minutes I got the same message and I installed them again. This time I re-booted just to be sure. Restated and there they were again. I have installed them with no error messages on both machines at least 4 times and while I type this I can see the Microsoft yellow shield sitting there asking for permission to install again. How do I get out of this loop?

They are listed as
Security Update for .NET framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 on Windows server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB2572073)

ditto (KB2518864)

ditto (KB2633880)

Thanks

Saves me posting the same question. Mine is doing the same. I have SP3 so not sure why SP1 and 2 are mentioned.

Same problem here. Googling finds a lot of reports of the same issue.

Me Three ...have tried to install these updates several times now!! it says it is completed at the end of installations but does not ask to reboot? I have also done a reboot but the yellow shield keeps popping up saying updates are ready for your computer click here to install? I guess it must be some thing to do with Microsoft if we are all having the same problem , would be glad of some assistance because this is now becoming annoying.

Those are Service Packs for .NET rather than Windows itself. Does this shed any light on the problem?

You have Windows XP SP3. The update in question is for .NET framework 2.0 SP2 / .NET framework 3.5 SP1, either (or both) of which could be installed on your machine.
How do I add a signature?

I got that too! found that by opening the windows update program from the Start Menu and using that to check for updates, then installing through that worked and stopped the constant auto update. Possibly wise to close any other programs, especially browsers while its doing it in case it being 'locked out' from something it wants to update because its in use.

Me too and it did not work for me either.
Also tried the Microsoft help link at the bottom of the window that opens when you click on the yellow shield. eventually took me to a special Microsoft fix it program (fix it 5252 I think or something like that) specifically designed (it says) to fix this problem but that did not fix it either.
I also looked at my update history and that says the updates I mention have been successfully installed about 8 times. I tried installing them one at a time and re-booting between each and that don't work.
I think someone has deleted these 3 from Microsoft's checking database or something. Now doing a final virus check and I have noted the numbers and stopped trying to install them.
I'm beginning to hate that yellow sheild!!!!##**?#

I have chosen custom install , then unticked them all. Gives you the option to ignore those updates in future

I checked them individually and they are not apllicable to my PC
