still...managed to resist the urge to spend to cheer myself up so could have been worse![/QUOTE]

And it could! I once bought a Paul Smith football in Selfridges in the midst of a severe bout of depression years ago.

If you can keep on track without splashing out then you've bloody got it cracked!

  • Sorry been off the radar. Had a major dip and totally fell off the wagon. Haven't even counted up quite how bad yet. Will update my sig when i do :-( No Paul Smith footballs but plenty of random kitchen gadgets and craft supplies. Thatsean ¿ this is the first time i've properly gone off rails since i started this process. Any tips for making sure it doesn't set a precedent?

ck - how's the mass ebay cleansing going?

  • Lorna my tip would be to tell your husband.

My husband ran up a lot of debt and I didn't know for ages. I wish I had, because I would have made different decisions about how I spent and things that we did as a family.

Eventually I found out and now we are tackling it together. It has made us stronger - because even though I didn't know about the debt I knew he was keeping something from me.
  • Thanks HL. Really interesting to hear how the news was received by someone on the opposite side of the tracks as it were. Not feeling in a place to do that right now though. we have mother in law moved in and stress about the house plus me not feeling great about work.

I know its a cop out but not even going to pretend i feel ready to tell him. And i dont think its the same for us in terms of spending decisions. he doesnt spend frivolously so him knowing wouldnt free up money for the debt it would just put even more strain on our relationship. I don't want to take the chance he wont stick it out. It's not something i could get through at the moment

how are you? i have had some manic weeks at work which means i have barely spent any money as i go home, i eat then i go to sleep and then i am back to work at 7.30am.

did you take back any of your purchases? or will you use them anyway at some point.

do you find you "binge" purchase? i used to do this too, so i take out all the money i can at the start of the month when i get paid and leave myself with too little to binge with, without having to go online, transfer the money across and wait for it to clear.

my ebay cleansing is not going well, in fact i havent even started and i am clutching the excuses.........

  • Hi CK,

Sorry I pretty much dropped off the grid around Christmas time. Had a really bad stretch and well and truly dropped off the wagon. Will update my sig next and then hide under the blankets.

Did you ever have any luck with your ebay cleansing? I have some Spring clothes I was hoping to stick on but think I might wait till the snow has passed...

I didn't take back enough of my stuff but have been giving away as presents for big birthdays and I gave some as Christmas pressies.

  • Okay updated sig after dragging all the paperwork out of the drawer. Not as bad as I was fearing. Although ccs and OD gone up I've been keeping on top of the loan repayments so total debts still lower than when I started. I've been considering getting another loan to consolidate the cards and OD. I know it makes no sense interest wise as they're on 0% deals but I seem to be able to compartmentalise that and pay down.

ccs are only on min payments at the mo. I did have it on fixed repayment like the loan but when I started spending I changed it. Guess that might be a better way to go than the loan...Feeling a bit in denial at the moment. This is what it felt like before when things got really out of control so trying to reconnect with all this enough that I start making a real dent in the debt again but not so much that I end up in another mental black hole. Really don't want to be this medicated for my entire life and I think this is a massive part of it - always on the mind!

  • no i jhad no luck with the ebay cleansing - sheer laziness on my part. plus no with the new posting rules, i dont see how i am actually going to make any money on it - yes more excuses.

dont worry - about falling off the wagon, i did so consistently for the last 6 years of being in debt. As I have said the best progress I made was in the last 6 months when I actually finally tackled the issues I had with money. If I had tackled at the start then i wouldnt had ever been in debt.

how is your job going? keep going Lorna - you still 1600 + better off than you were at the start. I dont know how many pay days that is for you but think of it in that way. you are X pay days better off!
