Getting a contract phone will frequently work out cheaper than getting Sim Free+Data package.
Take the new HTC One S:
Contract:
£16 p/m * 24 months = £384
No 'upfront' cost
= £384 over 2 years
Sim Free + Package:
Handset Cost = £419 + £10 top-up
MOnthly plan: £13.50 (and that's only 100mb data)
= £753 over 2 years

You can get a reconditioned unlocked Nokia 5110 from eBay for £20. GiffGaff give 250 minutes and unlimited texts for £10 a month. So that's £140 for just 12 months and none of the hassle involved with trying to get out of contracts. You can change when ever you like. I bet you that is cheaper than you are paying now and it's sim free. Anyone paying £384 or £419 contract or no contract for a telephone requires psychiatric help in my book and has no place on a "money saving" forum.0 -
You cant really compare a 5110 to a One S though.A_Flock_Of_Sheep wrote: »You can get a reconditioned unlocked Nokia 5110 from eBay for £20. If 3 won't cancel the contracts, just change down to the lowest priced price plan and ride the storm out until the end of the contract. That is what I am going to do.
I don't need all the minutes and data I currently get now anyway.0 -
As far as I am aware you cannot downgrade your contract mid-term, only upgrade.Deleted_User wrote: »If 3 won't cancel the contacts, just change down to the lowest priced price plan and ride the storm out until the end of the contract. That is what I am going to do.

I am pretty sure MSE's information is either incorrect or outdated. Reportedly you can downgrade in the last 100 days though, but this may depend on your luck.Deleted_User wrote: »According to MSE you can after the second half of the contract. Which means I'll still have 4 months to go before I can reduce it.

People use their phones for more than that these days. I'd like to see you browse the Internet, etc on the 5110A_Flock_Of_Sheep wrote: »Both models allow the user to make and receive a telephone call and send and receive SMS messages. But one model does not come with the hassle of being roped into a "contract" and costs the person nearly £400 to boot.
