Hmmm
Try this:
On the left of the Network and Sharing Center, click Change Adapter Settings
Right click on the icon for the Wireless adapter, click Properties
Click to remove the tick against Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) - make sure you only do it for Version 6.
Click OK
Right click again. Click Disable
Wait 10 seconds, then right click again, click Enable.

Has anyone managed to recify the same problem, please?
Starting to drive me mad now!
Yes. In Spain, last week.
The hotel’s wireless network system would not let me connect to the Internet until I changed the DNS settings on my laptop to the hotel’s own ISP’s DNS settings.
Then it worked fine. No other changes were necessary.
If you’re still using the same router as you had before, check whether your laptop and router are still set to use Plusnet’s DNS servers instead of Sky’s.
It only takes a moment to do.
Plusnet’s DNS servers are:
212.159.13.49
212.159.13.50
and
212.159.6.9
212.159.6.10
Sky’s are:
87.86.189.16
87.86.189.17
(Google’s are:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
and
Open DNS’s are:
208.67.222.220
208.67.222.222 )Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance
and conscientious stupidity.Dr. Martin Luther King, Jnr.0 -
Thank you everyone. Unfortunately I am going to have to try in the morning........It is Sky's own router I am trying to use.0

Hello,
I have tried everything that everyone has kindly posted, apart from the above, as I cant remember where to check....0 -
Log into the router's admin page and look for DNS settings, although I think you'll find they will be set to get IP address and DNS automatically.
I'm running out of ideas on this. One thing we haven't tried is to set a static IP address for your wireless adapter. Not a long term solution if you take the laptop out of the house, but worth trying to see if it resolves the issue.
On the left of the Network and Sharing Center, click Change Adapter Settings
Right click on the icon for the Wireless adapter, click Properties
Put the tick back against Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) - make sure you only do it for Version 6.
Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). Click Properties
Click on Use the following IP address, and enter the following:
IP address: 192 168 0 100
Subnet mask: 255 255 255 0
Default Gateway: 192 168 0 1
Click on use the following DNS server addresses, and enter
Preferred: 208 67 222 220
Alternate: 208 67 222 222
Click OK. Click OK (again)
Then disable and re-enable the wireless adapter as described above.
Check in the Network and Sharing Center. If the network still shows as Public, click the Customise link and change it to Private. How do I add a signature?0 -
this has to be one of THE most annoying bugs in vista...it's been in there from the start, but MS don't seem able to write a patch to sort it ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
after trying what seemed like hundreds of suggested fixes found online, i fixed it by changing the router security settings to WEP.
This apparently is quite a common problem with vista. I'd tried most of the fixes that people have suggested on this thread already before chancing on the eventual fix.
i found a techie-website that had really good instructions on how to reset the router to WEP, but i can't find it now, but your router manual should tell you what to do if you're not sure. I recall that it was complicated enough for a non-techie guy like me to need step-by-step instructions.
good luck0 -
Some great ideas & suggestions in this thread, but did you manage to get it going?
If not, do you want to try any more possibilities?
