Thanks Lilo - over the next couple of weeks i am going to have a real good look at this "energy" thing. Seems that I am using up too much energy all round - for the house, and for me - so need to get it sorted!!

FWIW, I hang my washing out and often in Winter I bring it in still damp. I have one of those things hanging from the ceiling and it dries incredibly quickly if it has had that blow (or limp hanging even) beforehand.

When DD fills the rack full from the machine it can take days however.......

(though she is the main reason we don't have a tumble drier 'cos she'd always start her washing at 9pm for a night out if she could :rotfl: )

But a blow could reduce the time in the drier? (even though it is more faff.....)

OO I suspect this is the balance/compromise that I will reach - start it off on the line, then finish it off in the dryer/on rads.

I'm very miserly with the tumble drier - just put it in for the shortest time possible and finish it off on the radiators

Don't let the tumble drier distract you from other possible culprits though, I really think you should try one of those gadgets that gives you a pence-per-hour rating for all your appliances. If you cant get hold of one I could borrow one from a friend and post it to you.

ANd the famous kettle - I trust you fill it with not a single drop more than you need each time?! We are hardline here, my OH would shoot me if I put in more than a cupful at a time. I don't know how much fuel it saves but it certainly boils much more quickly than when I used to estimate the amount.

KARMACAT - I forgot to say - Freecell was a huge problem for me. First I deleted it from my computer but then I found it online... So I blocked the address from my browser. This has worked and it's many months now since I played it. Even though I could very easily unblock it, I just haven't.

With the kettle, we are in a very hard water area, so boiling the minimum just gives you a mouth full of scale :( But I have thought that I could make up a flask of coffee in the morning and just use that during the day, thereby only needing to boil the kettle once or twice.

But again, this week will be "as normal" so I have something to base it on.......

Right, going off for an early night I think. Night all, and thanks for your input today. It has been a big help xx

Have you got an old towel in your drier? Someone on OS says it makes things dry quicker hence using less leccy. Works for us.

Just spotted your SOA, our leccy and gas bills are just as bad so will be watching out for any tips.

Give it a go, we find it much quicker. Also good is stopping my brother drying one pair of sopping wet jeans for an hour when he thinks no one is looking!
