Hi hypno, where do you take your children skiing? DH,the kids and me are all really keen skiiers, but couldn't afford to go this year,we would love to go somewhere near here,do you go to a dry ski slope or an indoor real snow one?
Sounds like it's quite away to go to leave at 04.30 eeeekkk!
Glad you had a good day,we were in Norwich this afternoon trying to get a couple of t shirts, but got fed up with the amount of people and came home empty handed

Hi LIH, the children ski at Trowse. It is great because it is a members club which is run by the members on a mainly voluntary basis. That means that for every hour that we volunteer down there, helping with fitting skis, working in the coffee shop etc, we get an hour's free skiing for us or for the kids, which includes junior club and race training!
So, over the past few years we have worked our socks off in that place in order that the children can train for free! Very MSE!!!
The summer race season however sees us racing all over the country. All dry slopes, this week Hemel Hempstead, next week Welwyn Garden City. Thankfully it is a big race weekend at Trowse the following week so not such an early start then - something to look forward to
I think family membership is £60 a year for 2 adults and any number of children under 18. Then it costs £5 an hour to ski at Trowse, or free if you have been volunteering! All equipment is included, or you can bring your own. Snowboarding is an extra £ if you want to borrow a board but skis are free!
If you want any more info, let me know - we do seem to live at that place so can give you details about when best to go along for a look etc! (it's not exactly the same as the Alps, but it will have to do!!)Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. It is one of the best dry slope complexes in the country - how could you possibly have missed it
Junior club runs on Saturday mornings from 9am (different times for different abilities) and they have about 120 kids there every week, just for junior club so it is very popular. Summer is quieter than winter but there is still plenty of time when you can ski together or in your own groups - ladies club, mens night (followed by the bar  ) or juniors etc.
Pop down one Saturday morning when you are next in the City and have a look, and pop upstairs for a coffee - because it is a members club, everything is dead cheap in the bar!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. We miss everything LOL!!
We have asked so many people around here if there is a dry ski slope and they all just say Ipswich,I detest the journey to Ipswich,so won't go unless I have to,but Trowse is only down the road, obviously a real Norfolk secretlooks loke we might pop down next Saturday morning IF DH is'nt working AGAIN!!! not complaining as he is finally bringing in the money which is helping us sort some stuff out

Today I have done nothing! So spent nothing! Very MSE:rotfl:
OH has put half a dozen things on ebay today, nothing which is likely to raise more than 99p, if that, but every little helps. I did another small matched bet today - £16.06 to add to the pot. It should have really been more but I didn't give it the time needed to get the best odds. Still, £16 is £16 more than I had this morning!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. I have just been reading another thread and this was posted by Southernscouser, which I found very thought provoking:
Today in the UK:
Consumers will borrow an additional £318m today
The average household debt will increase by over £13 today
300 people today will be declared insolvent or bankrupt
Bank and building societies will hand out £1bn in mortgages today
Citizen Advice Bureaus will deal with 5,300 debt problems today
The average car will cost £15 to run today
The average home will cost £30 today to run
Raising a child to the age of 21 will now set you back £23.50 daily
The price of a typical house will increase by £46 today
24.3m transactions worth £1.3bn will be spent on plastic cards today
£82m will be spent online today
1/3rd of all groceries we buy today will end up in the dustbin.
So, I thought I would apply this to myself to prove that I am doing something positive, so here goes:
Today in the UK:
Consumers will borrow an additional £318m today No money borrowed today, no credit card used, and overdraft not increased
The average household debt will increase by over £13 today I have paid £16.06 into our debt overpayment account, so my debt is decreasing
300 people today will be declared insolvent or bankrupt Not me
Bank and building societies will hand out £1bn in mortgages today Nope, not time for me to move.
Citizen Advice Bureaus will deal with 5,300 debt problems today I've not had to ask anyone except you lovely DFWers for help with my debt
The average car will cost £15 to run today Have not used the car today, so cost is limited to proportion of tax and insurance
The average home will cost £30 today to run
Raising a child to the age of 21 will now set you back £23.50 daily
The price of a typical house will increase by £46 today
24.3m transactions worth £1.3bn will be spent on plastic cards today Nothing spent on plastic today. In fact nothing spent at all.
£82m will be spent online today see above, NSD
1/3rd of all groceries we buy today will end up in the dustbin. On the contrary, I used some very hairy parsnips for dinner and prepared a mealplan based on what I have, not what I would like to buy.
So thank you SS for making me feel pretty good about the things we are achieving!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Hi Hypno, hope you don't mind me posting to say how much I've enjoyed reading your diary. All of the diary posters are great on inspiring people like me - one day may even manage to do my own - 'til then, thanks for the idea and challenges!Resolution:

Hi beemuzed and welcome to my little world
I find my diary really helps to keep me motivated. If I write it down, I have to face it. The support I have had as a result has been invaluable so I would certainly recommend doing your own if you think it would help you.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. A quick update - yesterday we listed loads of things on ebay and have bids of just over £100 already, so hoping that everything goes well and we have no upsets like the last lot that we sold!
The other big piece of news is that I did my ironing yesterday!!! OK so it might seem like nothing to most people, but the mountain was threatening to become a local tourist attraction it was so tall - put a couple of picnic tables nearby and watch the locals flock to it!!
So, a sense of achievement in actually having an empty ironing basket, chair, worktop.....etc......etc......etc
I did my first invigilating session this morning - nice and easy for a few quid. I have one each day this week, it will all add up.
I have also enquired about college courses to do the Cert Ed to allow me to further my teaching. At the moment I do some tutoring but would like to teach further education so am looking to go in September, costs permitting. Watch this space, early days yet.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes.
