Hi LJD, I hope you are managing to get all your work done, and that the kids are behaving!

Even thought it is all or nothing, I have no regrets in changing the way I work to allow me to do this. The summer holidays for example, are so much easier when I am working at home and the kids are much happier.

Hope you have a good weekend too x

Hi Hypno..just thought I'd pop in and see how you are and busy as usual I see.I agree your petrols pretty high we only average £380 per month on the cab and that's the OH working it 6 nights p/w and any running around I have to do but I only use it if I have to shop or can't walk to where I'm going.I also drive a round trip of 20 miles to pick my slimmimg stuff up....hope you've chilled out while kids were away..

Hi Taxi - I think I will certainly be doing more walking/biking/bussing over the next few weeks to see if I can get the costs down. I wouldn't mind so much if I was driving a big gas guzzler or a sports car, but we have very modest modes of transport so it came as a bit of a shock, really!

Hi Hypno, I know what you mean about petrol, we use about £120 per month, although this has dropped to just below £100 with me being on mat leave. I've started walking everywhere, and can't believe how much I'm enjoying it (and I've always been the type to moan about walking from the door to the car if hubby has parked a bit too far down the drive lol!). I'm averaging about an hour a day walking up to town and back etc. I'm losing weight, getting fitter, feeling less stressed....fantastic! It's not always so simple, sometimes when you have a busy lifestyle, you really need to use the car, but trying to walk 'that little bit further' gets quite addictive, in the same way that spending less is addictive somehow. And riding a bike is great fun - I'm dying to do that, but Tasha is a bit too small for riding pillion yet! :D

Hi Snaggles, we live in a village, so there are lots of things that walking simply is not an option for, sadly. However, with a bit of effort, and studying the bus timetable etc, I am sure we can reduce the travelling costs somehow. For the "village" stuff - popping down to the shop for bread, taking the kids to karate etc, we will make more of an effort to walk. If I am happy with the children's road sense, I will be letting them cycle to the city in the holidays so that they can go and do "orange wednesdays" but I need to be sure that there are sufficient cycle ways and common sense first!

Today the children are ski racing. I have made packed lunches and a flask of coffee so hopefully won't have much need to spend money while I am there. The weather is not looking promising though, so I am glad that I am volunteering to help out in the coffee shop!!

We had torrents very early this morning, and its clear now - I should be doing some gardening/path clearing/whatever, but I want to get houseworky stuff done before I do anything else. So, of course, I'm on mse! Enjoy your time at the ski club - you and your multitasking!:T
