Thanks Seaxwyn, but don't worry - I have provision for tax. However last year was my first year as self employed and the expenses incurred in setting up meant that tax was not an issue last year. By the time I had added in all my retraining costs, the cost of buying and erecting the cabin to work in, all the gubbins that I can claim eg contribution to heating, water etc, plus the fact that my income for first year in business was fairly low due to being new means that I fell below the threshold last year.
This year will not be greatly different, but I am allowing for tax. I work out my "profit" month by month and put an appropriate amount away. Don't want to be caught out by the tax man - have had a backdated demand for NI which was bad enough today at £29.50!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Also Hypno, you've said before how much happier & less stressed you are working for yourself, so think how much you've saved in 'comfort' spending!
It is true - for example we "needed" a holiday before, because everything was so stressful - so a lot of money would be spent just to get away from it all.
Now, we are lessed stressed and a week in Devon does us just fine! The rest of the time, the children are much happier by being able to be here, rather than being taken to holiday clubs at the crack of dawn, so that is a holiday in itself for them (and I just escape to my cabin to get away from the bickering :rotfl: ).Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Well done for being so sorted on the tax front.
I think I need a holiday MORE as a freelance! At least in a job you have colleages to ask for advice when you're not sure, have a moan to when things don't turn out right, and have a beer with when you need to chill. As a freelance I have to present a confident, professional face to my clients at all times and take total responsibility for how projects turn out.
Also, in a job, you can go home at the end of the day and have weekends off, whereas my work is always "there" as it takes place in my front room. So I tend to work most weekends, and often in the evening.
Sorry - having a moan - I should do that on my own thread!
Perhaps we need a freelance/working from home support group on here - or does anyone know of one somewhere else?Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -

I have loads of stuff I could use, I suppose, but I am just not inspired by it. DD has a big bowl of cheesy pasta right now, and DS has leftover chili with his pasta.
I think I will do something with olives and feta cheese. I have some frozen spinach so could use that too with some nutmeg. Will be an interesting concoction if nothing else!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. Decided to save the feta and olives for tomorrow - quite fancy them with a salad at lunchtime.
But, in my fridge (quite scary what you can find when you have a rummage) I have some bacon misfits, two mushrooms, some tomatoes and some brie that would run out of the fridge given half a chance. So with the spinach as well I am going to make a cheesy, bacony, spinachy pasta with a roughly chopped tomato in it.
Quite looking forward to it, now I have thought about it!! Thanks for not persuading me to have a bowl of cereal or some toast!!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground.
