Daughter invited on holiday

background
DD has a friend (both 16) and friend has invited DD to join them on short break caravan holiday in the UK
friend's mum recently lost her husband (friend's stepdad) to cancer and has two younger children, both boys, sons of deceased husband (daughter was from 1st marriage)
Basically it's so that her 16 YO DD has a friend to do 16 yo girly stuff with; both boys are younger.
Anyway, DD is not required to contribute to holiday
I am thinking I could give DD money to treat whole group (Mum. 2 boys, auntie, friend and DD) to a meal
so
Q1 - is this a good idea?
Q2 - How much?
(I don't think money is an issue - or not a biggie, as friend's stepdad had pension; all kids now get some money ona monthly basis ~ nevertheless I don't want to be a 'taker'. We, btw, won't have a family holiday this year as I've had a new kitchen and am skint)

ok she has been invited on holiday to accompany friend. she needs her own spending money, but, I can see that a 'thank you for inviting me' would be nice.
Yes - enough money for a nice meal out! you know where she is staying so google a nice restaurant and the average cost of a meal for X amount of persons.0 -
I think its a good idea as a thank you for taking your daughter off your hands for a bit and treating her to a holiday.
Id just work out roughly how much I thought the meal would cost per person, and give it to your daughter - as long as you trust her not to spend it alland then ask her to tell the Mum that youd like to treat them to a meal one night, and she will take care of the bill.
Or, if shes got a debit card, she could pay for it on that and then you could transfer that money into her account once shes told you how much it is - only because I was thinking if you gave her cash it could be embarassing for her if it came to more than that amount and they were sitting round the table waiting for her to pay! If she doesnt you could give her slightly more than you think is needed.0 -

I agree with meritaten and claire (I like the debit card idea!).
Or you could do MSE style, and download some vouchers from the main site(only joking!).

That is the most lovely idea, your a mum in a million, xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0

oh yes I meant to say this over and above what I will send her for her own needs!
friend is lovely - infact she';s here now on asleepover and I've already said I think DD should 'offer' to pay for a meal (because obviously I will be paying not DD;))
so, say a 'fish-and-chip' supper at, say, £10 a head would be ok? - it's 3 nights at Mablethorpe...DD is SO excited! She could be trusted with it!
No debit card - it will be a cash deal. (but that would have been a good idea - so thanks)Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
Thank you Honey Bear0 -
So maybe if I give her £100 and then she can offer to take them out for a slap-up meal OR get a takeaway in...that way there will most likely be enough to cover.

I have already offered to pay DD's share but that offer has been declined, BTW.
*is googling vouchers as we 'speak'*

Perhaps I'm just tight but a £60 meal seems a bit excessive for such a cheap holiday.0

Plus, it's the seaside - a fish-and-chip supper is obligatory as far as I'm concerned! Open, salt and vinegar...
