These are brilliant tips for folk to read, determined, you're doing a grand job and obviosly preparing well for the onslaught of very wise folk who are gearing up to stop the fags.

So that's where my permanent smile has come from :D

Absolutely true though, and it sounds as though, determined, and I have both been experiencing such fag-free orgasmic pleasures!!

My DH thought I'd gone on overdrive to start with, but was very pleasantly surprised :kisses2:

Better libido makes us forget fags altogether, something to think 'hard' about. ;)

    I concur Sue! :o

Anyone who is thinking about gearing up for a quit today/tomorrow (or even the day after) good luck to you and I believe 100% you can quit and for good. That's not to say there won't be challenges, you won't go through stressful life experiences because you will. WE ALL DO whether you are a non-smoker or not. Smoking a fag doesn't change these life experiences at all and it doesn't make them any easier. In fact it just makes it harder to go through the fear of quitting again.

I do have moments when I think "ooooo I could just smoke right now" but these moments are fleeting, and when I say to myself "no you won't!" the thought goes again. I think I posted a couple of days ago that even though there are times when I miss smoking it does not compare to the happiness I feel in being a non-smoker. We bought a house in Oct and our mortgage is £200 more than our rent was, well just under, by being non-smokers we haven't felt the pinch at all!

I also, being femal, totally relate to people's concerns about gaining some weight after quitting. Well firstly you don't need to gain weight - there are loads of things you can do to not gain weight (I have only gained 5lbs since stopping, and I truly believe it would have been less had I had time to go running). Secondly I read this quote the other day

" Is fat really the worst thing a human being can be? Is fat worse than vindictive, jealous, shallow, vain, boring, evil or cruel? Not to me"

    J K Rowling

    Really makes you think huh?

Gaining the freedom of life and health is really worth a couple of lbs in my mind! :j

  • Hi to Sue and all,
Just sticking my head round the door to wish all of you who are thinking of quitting tomorrow the very best of luck .
Take heart guys, it's a wrench breaking free of the habit, but once it's done, it's done for good! Think of the health benefits, the money you'll save, the freedom to go where you like when you like instead of always planning the smoking zones.

These support threads on here made such a difference to me when I first quit, and I see you're still continuing the great work. I'm sorry I don't help more, but the truth is, I've sort of forgotten being a smoker, which is a good complaint, I suppose. There IS life after smoking!
I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

I'd never heard of the JK Rowling quote, D, I'll certainly bear it in mind after weighing in post Christmas and New Year. How right she is, the most important things are to give up the fags, but to keep fit in any way possible.

Hi there splishsplash! It really is so lovely to see you back, even popping in every now and again is good and gives others the incentive to stop..or stay stopped if they're having a less than easy day. When they see people like yourself who have quit for......

2 years, 4 months and 2 weeks!!!!!!! :T:T:T:T:T Very many congratulations!!!!

That is so wonderful to read, splishsplash, and I bet you typed it with real pride too :grinheart I think you can be forgiven for not helping out so much these days, after all, you've said it clearly above, there most certainly is life after smoking.

Just keep popping in whenever you can as it's always splendid to see an ex-smoker return. Whichever way you view it, you're still helping in that way alone! :D

Take care splishsplash and a very Happy New Year!

determined and I spoke about weight and the chances of possibly putting some on after stopping smoking.

Here are a few tips to help, both whist you're stopping..and afterwards if necessary.

Again as with being an aid in stopping smoking, try a glass of water 1/2 an hour before a meal. Also sip water during snack times; it truly does work - I should know! ;) I've put on 4Lbs over Christmas and am now walking them off. Whatever exercise you do, double it and have periods during it where you walk normally, then speed up. i.e. Walk for 100 yds, then quicken the pace for 100 yds. Then drop back to the normal, then faster again. Do it as much as you can and it'll kick your metabolic system into working faster - truth!

If you snack in evenings...or whenever, use water and fruit instead, especially oranges and apples that take a while in eating. Also, have a small handful of nuts, especially almonds or walnuts (NEVER salted!)

A fitness dvd is good to workout with as often as is possible.

If you've a phone, download an app or 2 to help. When using the phone wander around instead of sitting, it all helps.

When cleaning your teeth do squats..yes, seriously!

When you've warmed the body up via a workout or similar then don't forget to use weights! They build up the muscles which help so much in burning off calories.

Go on, give it a try, after all, if you can stop the fags then you can lose weight - yes, me too!! I have asthma so it's imperative to be as slim as possible or I'm soon gasping.

    All the best, Sue x

at the moment I don't feel I have enough time for running as we are renovating our house and I feel every moment should be spent trying to get it done (we survived christmas without a kitchen ) but this is an easy way to get some additional exercise in.

We are hopefully having the units, sink and worktops installed on Thursday :j I can't wait! :j

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all quitters.

Lets make 2013 nic free and help our health, purses, family and lungs.

It is scary when you think about giving up a habit you've had for over 20 years. You wonder how life could possibly be the same ever again. You may go through symptoms similar to bereavement. You may kid yourself that you will be the 1 in 2 who doesn't get a smoking related disease. Get real! Do you puff climbing up and down stairs? You will. Do you smell of stale smoke on your clothes and breath? You do. Do you spend serious money on little white sticks that you set fire to? You do. Will life be the same without this habit? It wont - it'll be better because you will be able to be everything you've ever wanted to be. Nothing can hold you back.

Your future, your decision. Come and talk to us.
