Know people by their Card...

Over the lasy 2 years, whilst in University, I worked in supermarkets and started to notice there's a slight trend in people's persona and what card they use.
Or it could just be me getting bored on sodding tills for hours haha...
Here we go though...
Bank Of Scotland/RBS/Halifax (Visa Electron):
Either a fairly young person with no interest in banking and just need a place to put their money. Middle aged working class that just need a money location, and generally could not care about banks as long as the 4 Cans Tennants come weekly.
BoS/RBS/Halifax/TSB etc. etc. (Visa Debit):
Number of people just trying to live an average life, generally have a family or trying to work on their career. Massive majority of the population seem to have a Visa Debit. Could either care about banking and their money or just a simple funds location.
First Direct (Visa Debit):
Likes to think their looking after their money, and probably heard their a good bank on the internet or from a friend and has given it a go.
Private RBS/BoS/Clydesdale (Visa Debit/Debit MC):
Usually upper class, snobby people, that have came from a privilaged background, and may look down on the average person. Never do the food shopping in anywhere but M&S or Waitrose...
Coutts/Adam & Company/Private Banks... (Visa Debit):
The wealthy land owners, wealth handed down by generations, never used public transport... Usually rude, smug and think the world is bellow them. Probably banked with them for generations.
Barclays Premier/Lloyds Premier Black (Visa Debit):
Banker: Jump!
Client: How High!?!
Vanquis/Capital One (Visa/Mastercard):
Trying to fix past credit mistakes or trying to build credit rating.
Marks & Spencer (MasterCard):
Bored housewife, 2.5 kids, run off her feet....Does Zumba thinking it will recapture their 80's figure.
American Express Green Card:
Had their accout for years, doesnt like change...
American Express Gold Card/British Airways:
Buisiness people, professionals, ones they like to say "do you accept American Express" in front of a "We accept AmEx" sign. Pay for the additional servies each year, never use them...
American Express Platinum:
"I make more money than you..."
General Bank Credit Card/Barclaycard/MBNA:
"I need extra money till the wages come in..."
Pre Paid Card (CashCard Gold/Bread):
"I fu**ed up!..."
This is just my 2 cents during the boredom of retail...

Seems accurate enough...

I'm a Clydesdale customer and there is no Waitrose or M&S in my town. I'm certainly not upper class or snobby or from a priviledged background, and until my very recent promotion I was stretched nearly every month. I've always thought of Clydesdale as the friendly bank that is stuck in a bit of a timewarp, they just seem so old fashioned, and quite frankly their online banking is a bit naff.Oh, you wee bazza!0 -
Santander (Visa Debit)
Lost and confused0 -
Who uses a debit card ? Cap1 cashback credit card all the way0

I used to work on tills and I know exactly what you mean!
We went in M&S food only because we got vouchers from Sky.
Nice food but expensive, that's why I shop at Aldi usually, nice food not expensive. Anyway, the woman in front of us was putting in her pin and thought my OH was watching her do it. Que great big 'TUT' and covering up her pin. What a toffy nosed cow.
I use HSBC, Halifax and Santander by the way...0 -
I use Capital One with 1% cashback when a merchant doesn't accept my American Express cards (Platinum & British Airways). Except for distance selling transactions, this scenario is largely confined to restaurants, given that most shops including supermarkets accept Amex. According to the OP's observations, my cards are at totally opposite ends of the spectrum!0

Call me prejudiced, but I associate being a Santander or Halifax customer with being slightly thick, the sort of person who has a Santander/Halifax account because their mum opened one for them 30 years ago, and also they use cash for everything because they don't trust Direct Debits/debit cards/Faster Payments because their mum didn't either.
I know I'm wrong, but it's what comes to mind.
Saw someone with a ThinkBanking card the other day. What came to mind there was "muppet".urs sinserly,
~~joosy jeezus~~0
