Exactly. In real life if I told you 'go back to school' and winked my eye (or something like that) that would mean that I am not offending you, but just kidding. Here we use emoticons to show what are our intentions.
Now, come on. You are making some kind of religion from plain facts. The basics of probability calculus is not rocket science. Everyone can understand that frequency of winning depends of the number of people playing, number of competitions, and frequency of playing. If number of people playing is small then chances of wining are higher. All I wanted to know is what is average frequency of winning per person, i.e. whether on average people here win e.g. once a month or one a year. That would indicate to me whether it is worth to bother doing it or not. What's so difficult to understand about that? Why are you trying to ridicule simple reasoning? Just because you (apparently?) do not understand it does not mean that it should be ridiculed.
you could have entered the daily comps many times over in the time you've spent typing all these posts btw................note the emoticon please
ps- ive been a piggy for a year, entered the quizzes every day, and won twiceI don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Why should I accept wrong answers?
Why do you assume that all answers were not accepted? I appreciate the answers which answered my question.droopsnout wrote: »Since the prizes are worth only £10 and £20, it's hardly worth the effort, and I suppose it could be said that it takes less time to do the clicks than to get the info you need!
I did not realize when asking that simple question that it will create so much confusion amongst people here.droopsnout wrote: »By the way, it was you who said, "There is a whole science about random events."
There is nothing complicated in answering my question. I was going to analyse the results of it not you. So I still do not see a problem.0 -

count the numer of competitions there are and try and find out how many of the signed up members of PB actually do them each day... if you can then you will know the answer. might have been a better use of your time than arguing the same point again and again. if you can find out these details then let us all know please im sure there are others in the group that might be interested. i for one would be interested how you could get this information.0 -

To be honest, a lot of people have tried to help you. Most of the time they haven't given you the precise information you wanted, but they are trying to help. I don't think you need to be rude about it time after time. This is just an online forum (albeit a very friendly one), you are lucky that people are replying to you at all if that's the way you reply to them.MSE GBBO 2015 - Go Alvin!0 -
I'v been Pigsbacking for over a year and never won a sausage. However, 4 out of the 5 people that I have referred have won, including a CD and the 2000 crossword!0

When was I rude? Is a disagreement considered rude here? Why explaining you my intentions of why I asked my question is considered rude? I am also trying to be helpful and explain why some answers were plainly wrong, and what are my intentions. I could have chosen not to do it. Why do not you appreciate that?

I thought so, until recently. I have my doubts, now. Some of the people here seem to be intolerant of anything they do not understand.KerryBridges wrote: »you are lucky that people are replying to you at all if that's the way you reply to them.
That's contadictory to your first statement. Either they are friendly therefore they reply, and so I need not to be lucky or they are not so friendly therefore I am lucky if they reply.0 -
Of course it is for fun, but there are so many various competitions around, that if someone hasn't got enough time for all of them, then it is reasonable to choose only those where chances of winning seem to be higher than in others. After all it is not much fun to play all the time and never win, isn't it?
It seems that my original question is confusing for many people here. I only asked about frequency of winning and people often reply how happy they are with regular points - everyone is happy with them, but my question was about competitions where winning is not guaranteed.
To answer your question, I've gone back to the original Pigsback thread posted by Ryanski back in June 2005 to double-check when I joined Pigsback!
I joined in July 2005 - I don't always enter the comps that don't offer points just for entering. On average, I probably do them twice per week when checking for cts and new points offers. I enter the crossword about 2-3 times per week.
Pigsback winnings to date - one crossword comp for 2000 bonus points.
If you're looking for good odds, then the Pigsback comps aren't likely to be that brilliant, given the number of people that do enter them all on a daily basis, just from this thread alone.
Entering competitions on the Competitions Board on this site would seem to offer a better chance of winning, judging by the success rates posted over on the 'I Won' board. (And no...I can't provide the exact statistics for you!)

Oh for goodness' sake! In the hope it will shut flobber up, (and I think we all know the statistical probability of that), I'll say I have been a Pigsback member since around the end of September 2006, I have done all the quizzes and the crossword every day and I have won nothing. On the other hand, there are plenty of examples, in the pigsback threads, of people winning within weeks of joining.
Flobber, I know you'll argue with this and you seem to be convinced that you are always right, but I too have found several of your posts to be rude and unnecessary. Nobody here owes you any information, (regardless of what you were "expecting"), and I strongly suspect that most people here are not interested in hearing your explanations about statistics, calculus or why they are wrong. Why can you not appreciate that?!
This is not about us not understanding, (as you yourself said, anyone can understand basic statistics and probability), but about us seeing this as a bit of fun, not a scientific exercise and not caring. It takes mere minutes each day to enter the quizzes here, so I would agree with other posters that maybe you are taking this all a bit too seriously. I can't understand, if your time is sooooo valuable to you that you worry about spending a few minutes each day entering quizzes, why you are wasting so much of it arguing about completely unimportant issues on here.
You seem to think you have a really strong grasp of logic and, although I am doubtful of this based on some of your arguments, it could indeed be true. It's a shame you don't have such a strong grasp of social interaction. If you did, you would understand why Kerry told you that you should consider yourself lucky for any replies you get. Regardless of how friendly people are, you cannot expect people to reply to you with information if you are rude to them, reject their answers because they are "wrong" and continually pester them. On that basis you are not only lucky but VERY lucky to be getting any replies at all.
Oh, and just an extra note, most of us, if we ask a question, HOPE for an answer that helps us, rather than EXPECT it.
