Am I right in thinking that you can only use private sales on just auctions not fixed price or shop items?0
-
I've just answered my own question - I tried to list a fixed price 'private' and it wasn't accepted, so 'private auction' is just that - auction only0

I see the point but isn't this only a problem if friends and family know your account name.
I dont have anything to hide and dont care what other people think. So what if someone you dont know can see what you have bought. Isnt it the same as seeing you shopping in a store?
I guess you could set up a seperate account for buying if you are that worried about and that way you current selling account is not affected?
Its probably one of those details that you are going to worry about as you can see it but probably no-one else is goping to bat an eyelid over.
I think it'll blow over and settle down.Boots Card - £17.53, Nectar Points - £15.06 - *Saving for Chrimbo*2015 Savings Fund - £2575.000 -
Well, that scupper that then as most of the stuff I sell is fixed price or Shop items. I am not sure what the next step is. I am going to ask people via my 'thank you for payment' email to tell me right away if they do not want feeedback. Some people can pay and catch my feedback run (I am one of the few who do not wait for buyers feedback first) and have feedback left 5 minutes after they have paid. Then the next day I'll get an 'oh, by the way, please do not leave feedback'. To be honest people do not read the listings. If I gave you an item number you would be surprised at how many emails I get asking me if I combine postage. Can I post a number? I don't think I am allowed to, but so many emails asking me, it drives me nuts ecause it is obvious - it just goes to show that people do not read the whole listing, just the title and maybe top few rows.
I wonder if this will make or break some sellers - especially those who sell the more 'risque' underwear or items (the man who was selling the Ferrari and who bought te penis enlarger springs to mind, still makes me LOL!!)0 -
But if you were buying items that you were embarrassed about it or didnt want other people to know about surely its only a problem if people know you and your account name?Boots Card - £17.53, Nectar Points - £15.06 - *Saving for Chrimbo*2015 Savings Fund - £2575.000

I disagree, I already get a lot of people asking me not to post feedback as it shows my selling name - which has Lingerie in it. I get a lot of Men buying so maybe this will stop, especially if browsing with their mates (for example) or if their girlfriends also use to their accounts to buy items - buying gifts is going to become a nightmare because if your partner clicks into eBay they can see what has been bought (for them, for the mistress, who on earth knows) but I think this is going to cause problems. Imagine trying to buy xmas presents with the feedback there for partners and families to see.
No, I can see this is not one of their best moves and maybe will toll a death bell for many sellers, these are just one of a few reasons of course. The point of leaving feedback is going to die a death because no-one is going to be leaving for each other.0 -
I was going to dd, husbands and wives use each others accounts all the time and keeping things 'secret' from each other is going to cause even more problems. My husband uses my account to buy stuff but if he buys something for me as a surprise and then the feedback is left then it is going to spoil and gift surprise.0

I don't think I understand....can someone fill me in on what the problem actually is here?
Surely you've always been able to find out what items someone has bought by looking through their feedback..?0 -
Ebay has always been run by a bunch of muppets, paypal is even worse, but still they provide an accessible marketplace for millions of people so im gona stick with it.0

The difference is that under the old scheme you had to click each item to see what it was that was bought, so I assume people didn't bother. The new system shows it automatically. You are right though, items bought and sold have also been visible in feedback as long as you did one mor 'click'.
The other things that might have changed is under the old rules the ability to see what was bought/sold disappeared after 90 days, I *think* under the new rules it remains visible.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
