Greedy?

I know I might have taken it the wrong way too, but when I read what Di had written in her blog I felt really upset. Im at home now (after working in a job I loved for over 20 years) to look after my son who is autistic / has learning disabilities, and pretty much enter comps to take my mind off the constant stress I have fighting education authorities etc etc.
I guess I am what some might think of as a lurker too, but I always thank everybody, the reason I haven't really posted properly is I am always too slow when I have found something, as I see it posted already.
I also usually only have time to enter what I want to win, but lately I have started to sell a few of the bits and bobs (perfume, make up etc) I won over the past year.. not because I don't want them but because we need the money. I think no one should be judged about anything they do because unless you have walked in that persons shoes or know about what their life entails, we can't and should not make assumptions about anyone.
I comp for a hobby, and believe me its sometimes the only thing that keeps my brain from going soggy! It is lovely to win, and I have won some lovely things, and I have sadly sold some lovely things but surely that's up to me.
Anyway, thats my little rant over.. and my heartfelt thanks go to everybody on here, and I wish you all lots of luck.0 -
Funny how someone running a blog, in advice to someone wanting to run a comp, suggests extra entries for those with blogs!
Im home full time (i work from home) and i enter hundreds of comps everyday. I dont enter for things i cant use - but i have been known to watch a DVD or read a book, then sell it on after, but i do that with things i buy as well - does that make me greedy?0 -
I think there's a world of difference between selling off bits and bobs and entering solely to sell especially when it's one off prizes (dinner with a celeb-trip to Grand Prix etc) that people with that special interest would give their eye teeth to win.
I get really cross when people win holiday comps and then moan it doesn't include spending money or is for 2 adults and two children and they have six kids-If you can't use it-don't blooming well enter !!! It's usually very clear what is and isn't included in the t&c's.
Like Luijo I have a son with autism and when he was small almost all of my treats came from wins and I made some great friends in the comping community. I don't do much now partly because I'm too busy and partly because the return is lower now but the ratio of the greedy versus the giving doesn't seem to have changed much TBH.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
I think what Di is trying to have more people joining her blogs but this isnt the right way to do so. I'm a full time mum looking after small kids and everytime I have a free hours and I need enter some of the competition, though I may say I'm not a great contributor but at least I try my best and thanks every prizes I've won no matter how small or big it is. There's one time I won 4 DFDS tickets and can only use one, I give the rest away to some happy MSE'ers.
Reading all this post makes me thirsty. mmmmm I would rather have a cup of tea and biscuits while entering more comps rather than thinking a certain peron like Di...0 -

I would give my kidney to go to the Grand Prix and enter every Grand prix comp that I can, so if anyone wins and does not want to go I will swap a kidney lol0 -
The Bad
- Unfortunately a few compers can be greedy. Many are at home full-time, and will enter to win anything and everything regardless of whether they want it. They are often regular visitors - though not contributors - to the www.moneysavingexpert.com competition forum
- Some compers can enter hundreds of comps a day and as a result are likely to spend no time reading your blog (or indeed, any website they visit) - if an answer is required, they will usually have copied it from the MoneySavingExpert post.

LOL Over £200.000 worth of prizes and over 40 holidays?? And she's still entering???
Now that's greedy!!! Sort of agree its like the pot calling the kettle really Di x
I enter from MSE and dont often contribute and its not for lack of trying . I have posted lots of comps majority of the time they are already posted as there are set people who post the comps each week or whatever > also there are the regular posters on her who correct when you post > I bet alot of people are scared to post to be honest. I have given up trying to post comps on here now although I am very grateful for them who do post. I dont consider myself greedy because I do not post.
Also Yes I agree your blog is going really sour lately lots of finger pointing. I used to love reading it and you inspired me lots. Such a shame that your blog is one of the main places giving compers a bad name and causing a lot of anger and finger pointing.
I myself have even been looking for auto tweeters etc on twitter and finger pointing etc etc. >> such a shame really as comping used to be so much fun.
40 holidays you have won but I bet you still enter for more?
please dont call us greedy for not posting!

........at least they are posting to thank the poster they don't need to do that, I'm sure many don't.
MSE could appear quite 'cliquey' to newbies, if I didn't know better I'd probably be put off joining at first glance.
But like I say once they have made the first step by registering to thank for a win they may go on to use the boards and not just the comping ones - that can only be a good thing.
Yes some might thank, but if its only after they have won that is still rude. If I enter a comp I thank whether I win or not, its the polite thing to do when someone has gone out of their way to post.
I just hope if someone does continue to use the forum, they will have the manners to thank people in future no matter what.No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!
Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T0 -
I can see both sides to this but cannot understand how people can take offence at the remarks. We all comp, we are all different, we all have different needs.
I am not a lurker on these boards however I hold my hands up to not posting many comps. In fact I can only remember two that I have ever posted . I always thank though. I work full time and get about 2 hours max per night to comp, read my facebook, twitter and shop and research my next holiday as sadly I haven't won 40
Anyway I think the big thing just now is really Facebook and the way it is going with comps. I really cannot be bothered with all this nastiness/badness/cheating that appears on FB.
I cringe when I read some peoples comments on posts whether it be comp related or not. The negativity of alot of people is really astounding. And what is it with people thinking they have a "right" to win. Honestly the comments you read sometimes are quite shocking.
I have just had a quick look at FB newsfeed before I came here and saw Walkers Sunbites offering a comp to win tickets to a jubilee festival in Hyde Park. However one commenter says "I dont call that a great prize - thats a nightmare" which has so far attracted 2 likes. Now really what is the point of this negativity? Just because it is not an Ipad or £1,000 if it is not for you, say nothing and move on. Blimey if I was a promoter and had comments like that I would simply not want to offer any more competitions.
From what I was reading on another forum this has already happened with one company on FB. They posted that due to all the negativity and bad comments they will no longer be hosting anymore FB comps.
But, maybe this is the mentality of Society today, people want everything handed on a plate and to be spoon fed :mad:The best things in life are free.....0 -
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Like everyone on here i of course 100% belive what di has said:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
£200000 and 40+ hols, of course, and then she slags of mse??
yet she uses it??
What a silly woman, and her point that people lurk - if you look at forums there are only around 200-300 who are 'regular' (more than once day) post and comment, yet the site has probably 10000+ compers, tbh I prefer to remain anon if i win because some people get envious (or can seem to be envious) I have won nearly £2000 now in 10 prizes since feb 17th when i began, and i do thank posters if its from here, but you DONT have to its nice but not necessary the posters who put the answers on are doing EVERYBODY ahuge favour, if they didnt like the fct that say a post for say an 'ipad' only got 30 thanks then they wouldnt post the comps.
I would love to post comps but when i go through my emails each day (i get around 30 emails of comps a day) by the time ive entered 99.9% of the time it is already on here, the regular posters are just so damn quick (i have no clue how they find so may each day) i personally only enter around 50 a day on average as i dont bother with ANYTHING i dont want to win and keep.
But just doing 50 with itv ones takes all my time each day.
And people who go and brag well its leading with the chin.
Yes of course its nice to share but to say people are greedy??
Im thankful for this site intially - it got me started and taught me how to comp, how to find comps with less entires, and mainly how to win (many members helped) i also fell out with people, which also taught me a lesson, but i have learned from these mistakes, as im sure a member on here can confirm (jaibaby xx) for all the time spent arguing or moaning etc its time we could spend entering the FREE competitions that companies post because they want you to visit their website, and as a thank you they offer prizes, like you scratch my back etc.
This site is very helpful for the people who 'want' more than just comps, they also want a 'communtiy' feel, its also helpful for people who cant afford to buy magazines, or dont have sky for tv comps, it shouldnt be crticised it should be applauded like the many great posters and members on here, for giving ANYBODY (whether anon or not) a chance - yes albeit a small chance to change their lives,
(mine is changing as we speak, i smile everyday i dont have to worry too much how much i can spend on shopping am going corfu in august, amsterdam in november, whole family is going to the olypmics, and thats in a little over 2 months-and thats because of people like, 'tink, jambo, painkiller,KatieL and many more)
Although winners of comps they post may not thank them or comment all the time, if you won a comp whether you comment or not youre gonna at least give them a second thought and thats karma, what goes around comes around but mainly- they have helped for free out of the goodness of their hearts (when they could have just kept the comps to themselves) So whether a lurker (im 50% lurker i guess) we all applaud mse and its thousands of valuable members,
Have a wonderful & winning year to everyone (well except 'superlucky di' she doesnt need any it seems) :TStill comping, after 2 heart attacks 4th feb & 6th feb, and a stent put in.. 45 years old only:eek:0
