I didnt like the comment that 'if an answer is required, they will usually have copied it from the MoneySavingExpert post.'

Yes this is what we do, im not denying that BUT its all about sharing right? Its all about helping each other out, im sure when entering competitions Di has used the answers provided with the competition listing and if the company if really that against sharing answers they can say and it wont happen!

Also this annoys me ' There are several private forums on Facebook where compers moan about promoters, and if a prize hasn’t arrived or isn’t what they expected, they will gang up to complain. Many will even go as far as complaining to the ASA, even for something that may seem trivial - so be on your guard!'

If i have won a prize and it doesnt arrive is it not my right to chase it up?

I feel kinda hurt by this blog post :( Di makes out like some of us are heartless people only out for ourselves and yet i am sure she is not all that innocent herself :( I dont feel like i contribute enough to this forum anyway (when i find a monthly comp to post it always seems to be taken from me :( ) Its not that i dont try... im just never quick enough!!

I'm pretty new to comping and only enter a few competitions a week, but I read this post. I don't understand what is wrong with MSE specifically? It seems a very friendly/positive type of forum in general?

I was stunned when I read the lady on the blog had won £200,000 worth of prizes:eek:...floored. Do people actually win so much? How on earth is that possible? 40 holidays...wow. Maybe she has been comping for 20 years or something, but even then, that is an amazing return. That's one lucky woman.

Given how much she has said she's won, she can't exactly accuse anyone else of being greedy :rotfl:

One word springs to mind: Ew.

So because I have a comping hobby and because I accept the hard work that lovely MSErs put into this site (and I do search everyday for comps, but they're always already found!), it makes me greedy, or 'the bad'.

Ew. I hope her comping karma just went right out of the window.

  • To quote my blog:
    The Bad
    • Unfortunately a few compers can be greedy. Many are at home full-time, and will enter to win anything and everything regardless of whether they want it. They are often regular visitors - though not contributors - to the https://www.moneysavingexpert.com competition forum
    • Some compers can enter hundreds of comps a day and as a result are likely to spend no time reading your blog (or indeed, any website they visit) - if an answer is required, they will usually have copied it from the MoneySavingExpert post.

The MSE competition forum is a great resource - which is why it is targeted by many full-time compers who just comp & go, without any interaction or a 'Thanks'. This is what I'm getting at in my blog post, which is a summary of a presentation I did at a bloggers' conference on Saturday. Many bloggers are very much anti-MSE so I felt I should reference the site in my presentation - it's the lurkers here that give comping a bad name, not the contributors!

As an example, I ran a competition on one of my Facebook pages last year. You had to guess a product name from a snippet of its logo - the first day it was a few letters from 'Quality Street'. Someone shared it on MSE, and a reply was posted: 'Looks like a candle to me'.

Whilst checking the entries I noticed that I received around a hundred entries immediately after that post, FIFTY of which left the answer 'Candle'. None of those 50 people read the MSE post properly, or the question on my Facebook page. They just copied and pasted the answer, no doubt rushing on to their next competition - it didn't cross their mind that perhaps it would be good idea to actually read the details of the competition and LOOK at the logo on the Facebook page they were on before leaving their answer!

The people who spend time contributing to this forum should be applauded. But those that lurk, taking all that information and giving nothing back, in my opinion those are the greedy ones that sadly give 'compers' a bad name.

I will continue to blog and have strong opinions about compers and comping, and if you don't like it then you don't have to read it. I'm a comper AND a promoter and the sheer volume of cheating, greed and nastiness on Facebook and forums does seem to be making our hobby a lot less fun. Sadly that negativity does seem to be creeping into more of my blog posts, so perhaps I need to start making some more silly videos and lighten up a bit.... perhaps time for a Jubilee round up. :)

Funny how she not only fails to mention she is a member here but also the fact she is a member of a facebook group herself where people often moan and have ganged up to moan at companies

Am I the only person not to see a problem here ?
The advice is aimed at promoters right , so , if they want to get people to read their blog or have a read through their website then surley the advice of
'if an answer is required, they will usually have copied it from the MoneySavingExpert post.' is valid.
I for one C&P an answer then click roboform and I'm on to the next comp !
I can't see this personal attack on mser's either .
OK so It says ... Unfortunately a few compers can be greedy.
Well that's true, you only need to look at the yazoo fiasco on FB.
AS for "They are often regular visitors - though not contributors - to the MSE competition forum " that is probably quite true to . Most people on here are lovely , share comps , chat & congratulate each other , however I'm sure there will be some people out there that use the forum but don't share comps they find if they really want the prize.
As for this lady being a registered user of MSE , this thread now goes against the Be nice to all money savers mantra of MSE .

Does anyone else find it ridiculous that something so simple as entering competions can stir up such controversy?
