MSE News: Half a million could lose disability benefits
Comments

So one hand we are being told that elligibility has nothing to do with the actual diagnosis (ie. mental health categories), but on the other hand, it is despicable that it isn't (cancer)...
Sounds to me like 'I will pick and chose what applies to what as I decide what is or isn't fair'.
The whole atos style assessment process / rules are despicable - not one ounce of common sense in the lot of it.
But what do you expect when you copy a system designed to deny insurance claims - and apply it to benefits.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.
[/greenhighlight][redtitle]
The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -
Wrong. Even if you are in receipt of lowest rate you can receive the disability premium if you work at least 16hpw. If you are on hcc, and don't work, your partner can receive the disability premium if they are working.
You also receive extra money for a disabled child on top of dla.
All dependant on income of course.
Please check your facts before making comments.
You are wrong, if you are on ESA and low rate DLA you cannot get extra tax credits for disability..ask anyone..I always take the moral high ground, it's lovely up here...0 -
you respond by trying to falsely attack and undermine the messenger - a rather old, childish tactic.

You know for a fact GPs have a a broad knowledge of most conditions and will refer you to a specialist consultants to deal with your specific problem. You do not get this option with an ATOS interview at the present time; you could have RA and end up seeing a midwife who has no expierence of your condition.
But ATOS are not diagnosing or treating you, despite the misleading title of a "medical" so they don't need any specific breadth of knowledge.
My previous post was talking about claiming DLA under the special rules, which is only for terminal illness, then a comment was made about ATOS in response to my comment, so was it so far fetched of me to think that comment was regarding terminally ill people?
The post you replied to was about cancer patients generally so it didn't read as if you were only talking about people claiming under the special rules. Many people seem to believe that cancer patients should be a special case in everything so it was reasonable to read your post in that way.0 -

Nobody's talking about someone on ESA, the subject is someone working and claiming WTC.0 -

I replied to a comment asking what about cancer with a post about the special rules. Then someone replied to me so not unreasonably I thought we were talking about the special rules.
So reading over your posts, you think people with cancer that have a chance to beat it should not claim anything anyway and should be forced to go to work even if they feel sick, faint and depressed because of chemo? Seems pretty cold. I hope I'm misunderstanding you there.
Edit: oh and the reason so many people are found fit for work and the win appeals is because ATOS staff do not have any knowledge of the persons condition and tend to put the wrong information on forms.I SUPPORT CAT RESCUE! Visit Cat Chat to support cat rescue too.

I had to make a request to see a doctor at last medical because I new I could end up seeing anyone..
A midwife would have had to assess the reflexes in my foot otherwise, how could they do that if I hadn't have made the request..You are right, you could see somone who knows nothing about the condition..I always take the moral high ground, it's lovely up here...0 -

About 40% of us are likely to be diagnosed with cancer at some time in our lives. Surely you are not suggesting that almost half of us should claim sickness/disability benefits because of a diagnosis?
My husband had surgery to remove cancer last year and made it to the year milestone with no recurrence this month. His care and treatment have not impinged on his life sufficiently, on their own, to warrant extra money. Simply another medical issue to add to his list.0
