My freezer is nearly empty,I just cant seem to fill it up quick enough.
It used to be full to the brim when I was buying processed food,due to all the cardboard packaging but now I`m OS and Homecooking everything it never gets more than half full.Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0 -
What I tend to try and do is periodically empty any stuff in the freezer that has been bulking it out by inviting friends round and having a curry night etc. Uses up anything that would otherwise be hanging around and/or be producing several spare meals you don't have space for.
It also stores some meals in other people and hopefully they'll return the favour sometime.
I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...
I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!0 -
I wanna freeeeeeezer!!!! I have a fridge freezer but I wanna BIG one
Actually only thing I think we need in the next many days will be milk and possibly bread (OH has decided he doesn't like toasting HM bread... pain in the proverbial back end! ARGH!) so am intending to treat myself tomorrow morning and go through my freezeroooo the fun! I might even clean the fridge whilst I'm at it!

I have a similar problem - I keep trying to run the freezer down so I can defrost it - I've been trying this for the last 2 months but it just seems to get fuller!0

Aww... being on my own and having no space for a freezer in my small flat, I can't help feeling envious every time I read threads like these. All these goodies got at bargain prices.... I can only buy so much, otherwise it goes off. Still, thanks to my good OS habits I now save quite a lot compared to what I used to spend before I "met" MSE...Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0

Was just about to give you Cooltrikerchik's suggestion. Have your own challenge - how many meals can you have without buying anything. Or perhaps just buying milk, bread and poss fruit and veg if you don't have these in the freezer.
Mind I am as bad. I made loads of soup before Christmas for lunches and then hibernated. I don't have lunch at the moment, just brunch which is mainly porridge. Very filling. I am slowly using the soups as an extra course for the evening meal, but am finding it difficult to cut down on the main dishes to compensate!0 -
Splendid idea - but how do you manage to go shopping for fresh stuff (milk, veg etc - that there's just no room in the freezer for any more........) without 'just checking' the reduced cabinets or doing a second take at the 'BOGOF's' and Special offers???
Every shop, I intend just to get basics - but am attracted to these aisles like a blummin magnet!!!!
I have a large Fridge freezer just for me - like others the fridge is often mostly empty and the freezer crammed full. Juggling frozen stuff with 'bargains' is an art form!!!
Love the Freezer-Jigsaw analogy - it SOOOO is!!!"...I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams."

Hi
it takes some time to adjust the shopping to the pace in using the food you have at home, but it's definitely worth to learn to buy less and use what you have in the freezer. You will have more time and energy to do what you like, instead of carrying the loads home, plus cooking, storing etc. and save more money too. There are offers all the time in the supermarkets, so normally it's not worth to stock high quantities of a particular food because it's cheap, may be tomorrow you can get it even cheaper...0 -
Don't shop for the next few days,only menu plan from what you have in the freezer.
Just take a walk to the shops for bread and milk, that way you won't be tempted by too much as you'd have to carry it all home.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
