You should check the warranty status of the drive ASAP. It's possible that you are entitled to return it for a refurbished drive.
Out of interest, what make and model harddrive is in the machine now? If you've already mentioned it I'm sorry, but I don't see it.0 -

This is the one I bought from ebuyer and installed May 2012. Cost a bit more at the time, around £70 I think. This is the one that is currently dying.0 -
Seagates aren't much good for anything these days. They did used to be reputable drives, but that reputation has been left behind somewhere in the last decade.
