Local Loop Unbundled. All non-LLU providers are just reselling BT's Wholesale service.
LLU providers use their own networks and equipment other than on the local loop from the exchange. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Well, there was the implication that resellers are likely to levy a surcharge, which'll possibly make them more costly than the deal I'm looking at.
Cheapest deal I have personally found so far is £237 for broadband/line rental/anytime calls (Plusnet) with the added bonus of £25 cashback, ie £212 per year!
Equivalent to £17.67 per month for the year.
That must be paying for it in one lump sum I'm guessing? Its a good idea to do this. Are you sure you will get a good service too? I'm beginning to realise that speedy response to problems is worth a small amount too. Can Plusnet guarantee this?0 -
No, he is referring to the total first year cost, which is the only sensible way of comparing tariffs, without getting lost in '6 months free' or '3 months half price' marketing hype.
Plusnet call centres are UK based, so not too bad. But if you have a line problem, it makes little difference who you use, as ultimately it'll be up to BT OR to fix the problem, regardless of your ISP.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks. I see. Where are all the LLU provider's cables and equipment located then if not at the local exchange?0 -
They are at the local exchange-BT had to give them access under deregulation. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Just wanted to say that the woman I spoke to at Talk Talk told me blatant lies about the deal when she said I would get 100 free calls from my land line to mobiles. I dont. I kept ringing up a few times a week to check what the deal of the day was and quoting the previous quote for comparison. I ended up staying with Talk Talk and paying the line rental up front £144 and a monthly charge of £14.50 which is an annual saving of £102. Better than nothing I guess.0
