We are moving next week, and have asked the purchaser whether they would like to purchase the quite nice and expensive curtains and poles we have in the property. He said no. So why not take them? Even an ill fitting pair can help in the mad early weeks when you are struggling to put your house together. I see nothing wrong in this.

We have some blinds that are custom fitted to the windows- these we will leave. It's common sense surely? Being a tightwad doesn't come into it.

Last time I sold a house, I asked the buyer if they wanted the curtains and blindsat the front of the house as I was prepared to leave them (not sell them) I did ask though that they told me if they didn't want them as I could use them in the new house. They said yes, they wanted them so I left them and a week later they had got rid of them. I was slightlty annoyed because they were new and I could have used them.

They bought for the full asking price?? I didn't think that ever happened these days... Most people would be humping their legs in gratitude rather than considering charging a couple of hundred quid for some leftover blinds, imho :)

I don't think taking curtains is petty at all. We bought ours to match our colour scheme, as I'm sure others do. If someone left theirs we'd only take them down.

I dont think anyone has said taking expensive/matching curtains is petty.

Just that taking blinds that are custom made for the house/blinds you werent planning on using anyway

One difference is that, as I understand it, curtains are not considered fixtures, while blinds are.
This means that a seller is free to remove curtains but must leave blinds behind (unless sale contract states otherwise).

Obviously we all know that petty sellers often remove fixtures...

I left a lovely 2 year old 600 pound freestanding cooker when we sold our house as I was selling to a couple about to be married and it was their first home together. I didn't put it in the schedule as if it had been horrible people I probably wouldn't have left it. We bought this house and the cooker must've been 25 years old if ti was a day, and it was minging and falling apart lol But our buyers seemed really grateful, and I was just thankful we got our house sold quickly.

I've always left curtain poles, and custom fitted blinds behind. Even the odd curtain on one occasion, although usually take with me as the norm, as can be personal taste, and are often necessary for privacy on a move.

In my current home, there were no curtain tracks left or anything, so had to make a priority purchase. It was a pain having to put new curtain poles up, when the previous occupants must have had something in place.

Leave the blinds, your husband is right. Its what I'd do.
New forum. New sig. Yes I still need to lose 2 stone!

That's mean - does everyone really move to places where the windows are the same size?

Every place I've lived in seems to have different size windows even if they were built in the same decade so if I'm lucky only one window will be able to fit curtains from the previous property let alone blinds.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

We've decided to leave the blinds behind and not ask the buyers if they want them, don't see the point.

We are taking the curtain poles and curtains as we need those for the new house.
