OP, take no notice of everyone on here, you are totally correct and they are wrong, you shouldnt have to pay the garage any money whatsoever.:p
I checked my lottery numbers last night and camelot have drawn out the wrong ones, they dont match the ones on my ticket, do you think i should sue them for their mistake? (only answer if you are going to say yes, please):pBe Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
I really don't understand what the advice on here is based on.
The OP took their car into a garage with a fault. The garage have failed to fix that fault. Why should they pay for a service that hasn't been provided?
In addition, the garage fitted a new fuel pump which they claimed would fix the problem. It didn't. The garage misinformed the OP, and so the OP shouldn't be left out of pocket for someone elses mistake.
Some of the people on here sound like utter mugs. SailorSam, how much did you spend on calling out an engineer, and paying for them to fit parts, for no benefit?0 -
But that's what happens when people are trying to fix things, faults could have several answers.
It's like my central heating broke at home in November and they ordered a part to fix it but it didn't work I think it was March and after 5 visits and ordering different things that they finally told me to scrap it. Your car is similar, they're doing their best if you're not happy go to a different garage.
Thats what I am doing0 -

well put :T0 -
However, your main concern is getting your car back. Can you do this without paying?
Are you willing to defend a small claims court action against you from the garage? Because they will want their money. You have no guarantee of winning and may end up paying more.0 -
The problem, TR, is what exactly did the OP contract the garage to do? What did the garage state they would do?
If the garage guaranteed to fix the problem then the OP has a case. Otherwise the garage appears to have fulfilled their side of the bargain - they attempted to diagnose and fix the car but were unable to do so. IMO the garage is well within their rights to charge for their time. (But OP may be able to come to some accommodation on final price - i.e. negotiate down the normal hourly rate on the basis that the garage were unable to fix the car; a goodwill gesture if you will).0 -

Nothing !
The breakdown cover is for £1500 per year and a replacement if it can't be repaired.
But what i was trying to point out was it's not always that simple to trace the fault and you may need to try other things.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

I know someone who had a similar problem ,cost him about a £1000.00 and did not cure the fault,in the end he took it to a mate who fixed it for little. The fault was a dirty fuel filter.
The first garage tried various things and each time they charged him.The garage was Arnold Clark by the way.0 -
The issue is that it is highly unlikely you will be allowed to have your car back until payment is made for the services carried out.0
