BT completed roll out of fibre broadband? Oh Yeah?

The wholesale fibre broadband service has reached the 10 million landmark "several months ahead of schedule", BT said last week.
Well I live in south west London and it is not expected to be available here before the start of July. I just checked.
If they can't deliver it in south west London there must be a whole lot of customers still waiting in other urban areas too I guess, or is it just south west London?

How does "10 million landmark" equal "completed roll out"? Did BT suggest they had completed it?
BTW - no fibre here yet. (South Lanarkshire).0 -
It's stated as being unrolled from June 2012 here, if we're lucky. It was pushed back from march or april iirc.
Still no 21CN WBC. That was slated for 2010 but never arrived.0 -
This is what it actually said in the DT, taken I imagine, from a BT press release
"
BT superfast broadband rollout 'ahead of schedule'
BT has completed its superfast broadband rollout to 10 million British homes ahead of schedule, the company has said. The wholesale fibre broadband service has reached the 10 million landmark "several months ahead of schedule", BT said.
Customers will now be able to get superfast broadband of up to 80-megabits per second (mbps) direct from BT or from other Internet Service Providers who resell the fibre capacity.
Ian Livingston, chief executive of BT, said: "There are more than half a million customers already using the service and more than 60 ISPs trialling or offering services."
Nothing there about how roll out is incomplete with many customers still waiting.0 -
They cannot roll it out to the whole of the UK simultaneously. 10m homes connected presumably means just what it says and no more. Many parts of London and other major cities are not yet on fibre.
What is more annoying is that BT published a schedule for the roll out that has proved too optimistic, resulting in last minute revison of availability dates. My own cab was scheduled for end March, it's now end June.No free lunch, and no free laptop

As Macca says but would say take the install dates with a pinch of salt, its highly likely to be delayed 6 months or even 12 months.
FTTC been available 2 years here, i was the second to have it around here. Out of 7 cabs only 6 are connected, mind you the unfortunate already get 3meg+ download speeds on LLU.
When mine was installed i was told by friendly Open Reach installer that the worst areas were being done first, but that was well over 14 months ago.
Even if your local area is upgraded theres no saying you will get it!
Thats why BT have been hard pushing FTTC/FTTP, pretty sure theres targets to be met not set by BT! IE funding.0 -
That press release says exactly what it says - the roll-out to 10m homes is complete ahead of schedule; i.e. a specific milestone has been achieved. It does NOT say that the roll-out is complete.0

There must be about 25m homes in the UK, so well under half have so far been connected.
It's due in my area in September 2012 now, it was meant to be December 2012.0 -
We got it in January in the middle of nowhere up north, eat your heart out London!0

yeah 10 million staff accountsDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
