I have been given a couple of huge marrows and have no idea what to do with them!
I have no freezer space either at the moment (full of blackberries!), so need ideas for things I can make that will keep in the fridge for a few days.
Preferably not chutney as I have batches of chutney coming out my ears at the moment!

    :D Afternoon Ladies and Gents

I have just been given 4 very large marrows. I've never eaten one before and I don't know what to do with them. Mr Frog ad the Tadpoles won't entertain even trying them so it's just me. Therefore whatever I do, needs to be freezable as I won't be able to eat it all in one go.

I often make veggie chilli that I just throw stuff into so am considering doing that to one of them, but what to do with the other 3?

Can I chop it and freeze it raw ready for another time? Any ideas would be gratefully recieved but nothing to do with meat please as I'm veggie

    Many thanks in advance :D

  • This chutney might be good as it will take a while to eat them on your own!

You can half them, stuff them with lentil/mushroom bolognese, top with cheese and bake, but they might be a bit large for just yourself.

Nigel Slator has some recipes here too.

    Hi frogga;),

You can make a good vegetable side dish with diced marrow, onion and tinned tomatoes plus a few herbs/seasoning. Or add to a ratatouille with a few more veg. I'm sure they'd freeze. Would be good portioned up for adding to a jacket potato.

When I was a nipper my Mum just used to peel the marrow with the potato peeler. Then cut in 2 or 3 inch long pieces cross ways. Then she'd take the middle seedy part out of each "hoop". Then she'd boil them.

She served the soft hoops with generous knobs of butter.

Delicious. I guess you could microwave nowadays.

Unfortunately I don't have the recipe to hand, but I remember my Grandmother making marrow and ginger jam to use up the marrows Grandad grew in the garden.
