Not exactly had the forget to eat problem per say. But I get it folks.
Am diabetic so I eat small regular sized snack meals spaced evenly through day. Has shrunk my stomach capacity down so am now losing weight even though I am on a high amount of steroids due to my main illness which is Myasthenia Gravis.
My suggestion to anyone who is depressed is to google up the meds they are on and find out if any of the side effects are forgetfulness and not eating. Then perhaps a review with GP to see if there may be a better combination that will work better. Also eating small protein type snacks can help as it has a slower release of energy and lasts longer than a carbohydrate based one. So perhaps tinned fish in tomato sauce, baked beans on toast, any nuts, salmon or mack pate is good too. AS is meat pate. Stocking up on lots of small amounts of these foods some of which can be smaller portioned too and frozen for the singular persons. Meaty tinned soups - I like heinz but there are many makes out there. The mug sized ones do fit in a mug so would be good. Then set your alarm to remind you to go eat and then do exactly that. A good routine will see you through.

I can go a full day without eating sometime just can't be bothered to cook, like a beer though so that provides some calaries and minerals.

One trick is to have heathy snack stuff handy, so fruit/veg/salad.

jazz a salad up with some prawns, ham or leftovers from a roast.

sandwich is always an easy option have meats with a long shelf life like salami chirizo, cheese, love a leftover roast chicken salad french stick.

Another one I do is have some hot and spicy chicken wings or BBQ ribs in the freezer, chuck them in the oven and carry on doing something else.

one stop oven meals, like a piece of meat roast veg and potato.

A decent wok can make all sorts of things quickly

Another is to do something regular that involves a bit of exercise say some gardening or a walk, always feel that bit more hungry and motivated.
  • I used to, because of having Crohn's, and it got so bad that I just associated food=pain, and ended up totally losing my appetite - which can lead to vitamin deficiencies which lead to appetite loss. A bad circle to be in. I just forgot how to feel hungry, and once the operation/tablets made me feel better my appetite didn't return. I'd go all day and feel faint and suddenly realise I hadn't eaten.

Two good things happened - my husband, who would certainly notice if there was no food - and I took up cycling, which brought my appetite back with a whoosh. But I didn't recognise the hungry feeling at first, I thought I was ill! :-S

I have been/probably still am depressed and I would go for days without eating - I didnt feel hungry either. Well the not eating has caused me to put on weight because when I do eat my body has hung on to it in case it gets starved again. Now I see a health trainer once a month to be weighed and to hand in my food diary. Must admit that I am a lot better than I used to be as I do at least eat breakfast now whereas I didnt bother before.

I still have days when I don't bother - these are usually days when I haven't had much sleep due to eye pain (I am being treated for glaucoma at the moment) and I have found that I don't really feel inclined to eat breakfast although I try and have a bite of something mid-morning even if it is just a piece of fruit.

I have the opposite problem. I'm obsessed with food. I can't stop eating etc. The only reason I'm not overweight if some strict discipline and willpower!
I'm never offended by debate & opinions. As a wise man called Voltaire once said, "I disagree with what you say, but will defend until death your right to say it."
Mortgage is my only debt - Original mortgage - January 2008 = £88,400, March 2014 = £47,000 Chipping away slowly! Now saving to move.

On the rare occassions I have the house to myself for a few days I either experiment with something expensive that I fancy but have never had before (steak tartare last time) or I cook my absolute favourite foods that no one else here likes.

    I never forget to eat.

  • I think about food CONSTANTLY. I could always eat at any time of day or night. It doesn't matter if I am happy, sad, busy or whatever. :(
