Does anyone else have trouble with remembering to eat?

Sitting here, aware of feeling down, but I suffer from depression anyhow. Then I got a call from a friend.

During the course of normal conversation, I realised that I've forgotten to have lunch or dinner, and I'm not actually depressed down, but low in energy because I haven't fuelled myself. I've forgotten to eat, again. Now have to find some food, and am sick of eggs, which are fast to cook.

Does anyone else have a problem like this? I'm a tad annoyed at how much effort this feeding myself malarkey can be sometimes, and wondered if I'm just odd, or if other people find this an effort too.

If I just remember to get a nice casserole/stew going, I'm set for a couple of days!

Nope, you are far from alone!

I can sit there and 'think' about having something to eat, but then I get distracted, remember thinking about it, and just think I must have eaten (makes no sense at all, I know!!).

It is even worse when I have actually cooked for the kids, because I don't fancy eating at the time but just forget to eat later because I have already prepared food and seen it being eaten...

I regularly eat one meal per day but every third day is a 'hungry' day, where I will have up to THREE whole meals lol.

What are your absolute favourite foods?
I'd suggest making a list of what you like to eat then plan a menu for a few days around that. Then you will actually look forward to preparng your food and eating it.It should be more of a pleasure than a chore.

Can't say I have this problem, but then I am a bit of a piggy. Would it help to set alarms/reminders on your phone if you know you have a tendency to forget?

I definitely sympathise re thinking of things that are quick to cook when you're short of time, though. Like you I usually cook up a big pot of something to last me (I live alone) a few days, and I always have beans/eggs/cheese/tinned fish in for quick suppers-on-toast. Cous cous cooks in no time, so that's another standby for me - and I couldn't live without frozen peas and sweetcorn. Well, I could, but you know what I mean!

I dont forget to eat as such. However if I am feeling stressed, anxious or worried about anything then I lose my apetite.

When I get like this I usually force myself to go out and get some fresh air and sunshine. Not a total cure but it makes me feel calmed and refreshed and if I take a brisk walk down by the sea then I can build an apetite.

I do generally like to make meals from scratch but I do have some of my favourite things in the freezer from the 'cook' company. They can go straight from freezer to oven and be ready quickly with no effort on my part. Ideal for the odd days when the thought of cooking is like to much effort, but when I know that to feel better I should eat well.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.
  • When I'm at work, I eat because of tea and lunch breaks.

At home... I can get engrossed and forget.

not according to my waistline but I wish I did have this problem! you say you are set for a few days if you have a stew - may I suggest you invest in a slow cooker to make a big stew which would keep you going? x

I wish I could remember to stop :o

When my children are ill, I forget, as I do not have to feed them so yes.

And I do quite often forget lunch, but then irritatingly use that as justification for a Corrie timed Dairy Milk..........

you're not alone..i regularly forget. I think if I lived alone I wouldnt eat at all

Not as bad as not showering tho...at a very strressful time of my life when my son was so badly behaved that i had to live in a separate house with him apart from hubby i spent all my time whizzing between two houses and had set times and things to do in each. I once went 4 days without showering beacuse the routine was upset and i wasnt in the right time or right place to do it
