disable the nmindexing service using services.msc

if you want it to run fast, uninstall avg, o&o defrag, and superantispyware and re-enable windows firewall, chastity belts have downsides - this is step 5 of the sticky, the most important section - avast is meant to be a replacement not an addition. Follow the guide until the end, reboot, then post a log and commit charge before loading anything else.

If you must keep avg (paid for av solutions have more bloat, the fact that they are paid for doesn't mean they are better), uninstall avast.

to reiterate what others have said, you don't need more ram, 1GB is enough for the majority of XP users, just need to remove the software clutter. Once the commit charge comes down to below 400MB and the bloated security has gone, the speed and boot time should improve noticeably.

As stated before by all commentators, go to the Control Panel, Add/remove Programs and uninstall:-
Then carry on with Closed's sticky

To remove Superantispyware do the following:
Follow these steps to use the Uninstaller Assistant:

    1. Exit SUPERAntiSpyware.

To exit SUPERAntiSpyware, right-click the SUPERAntiSpyware system tray icon (the orange/brown bug running near your clock) and select "Exit" from the menu.

It is recommended that you close all other running applications before attempting to uninstall SUPERAntiSpyware.

    2. Download and run the SUPERAntiSpyware Uninstaller Assistant:

Click here to download the proper version for your operating system:

    SUPERAntiSpyware Uninstaller Assistant (32-Bit)

    3. Follow the instructions given by the Uninstaller Assistant.

To remove remnants of Norton/Symantec, follow instructions on this link:

Hi robmar0se, have uninstalled superanti spyware. Have spoken on line to a symantec technician who did a dial up to my computer to remove norton and symantec, it appears that norton and symantec are deleted from the system but any back up files the computer did while it was running are still held in a back up file. I can delete these but he said I would lose all information loaded while norton was running and I would not have a safe/secure reboot position, I said that I would leave them until I had thought about it and got some advicefrom the techie guys on here. My system is running much much quicker now. I have noticed that when I play on facebook castle age and heart of darkness the heart of darkness pages wont load do i have to enable something for this to happen?

some of this is covered in the sticky

Unless you need them running all the time, use the startup tab in msconfig (start, run, msconfig )to disable these items from running at startup (they can always be run manually if needed)

Install and run ccleaner (untick the google toolbar during the install). Untick the "windows log files" box, under the system heading before cleaning. Also Tick the java cache tick box under CCleaner, applications, internet to wipe the java cache which sometimes hides infections. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/slim

Install and run startuplite, accept suggested changes - http://www.malwarebytes.org/StartUpLite.exe

Disable ctfmon - control panel, regional and language options, languages, details, advanced, tick the Turn off advanced text services, ok
