Hope nobody minds but need to vent
- really, really really p'd off (mainly at myself).
When I cut the hedge the other day, managed to do the whole thing without incident and then on my way back to the garage spied a bit sticking out ..... chopped it off - along with going through the power cable:eek:
Anyway, checked the electrics in the house were OK - thankfully yes but never occurred to me to check the garage.....
Just been out to put stuff in the TD (yup, run out of hanging space and as it's towels thought I'd just do them) and ..... no beeping power in there.
Hoped it was just the socket with the TD and lights on but no it's flaming everything.
Worst of all is that the freezer is absolutely packed, incl:
£40 of dog meat I've just bought
2 whole chickens
loads (seriously!) of chicken breasts
8 packs of mince
10 packs of chicken stock DM gave me the other week
loads of packs of blackberries & apples
around 15 HM ready meals
various other bits & pieces (garlic bread, bits of cooked meats etc)
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
Sorry but just so p'd off - it's a lot of money to literally have to throw in the bin (and will seriously affect the budgets)
Not sure whether to just leave it there until next bin day as it'll stink if I put in the bin now?

Rising from the ashes, that is ATROCIOUS!!!!!!
I feel so so sorry for you? Is nothing salvageable? BBQ perhaps?
Could insurance be an option to claim? The contents sound like they would be about £200 odd to replace if you just went out and paid the regular asking price on SM shelves.
Gutted for you.:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

I'd be really wary about trying to use anything TBH (I am more over cautious than a lot of people as I have Crohn's and anything slightly dodgy can have a big impact IYKWIM:o).
I've been struggling to remember what day I even cut the hedge - think it was Weds so it's been defrosting for around 3 days now and ..... don't think I'd want to risk it.
I'd probably cook the dog meat (cook and mix with veg and freeze in individual portions) but the inside freezer isn't that big and ..... is also packed already:(
Insurance claim - again don't really want to go there as had a big claim last year (storm damage) and conscious that premiums will be rising anyway - I think my excess is £200 for things like that anyway so prob not worth it anyway.
Sorry .... feeling a bit downGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Terrible!!!!
I'd be crying my eyes out to have to throw things away like that
I know what you mean about the insurance though. that's why they set such a high excess as most folk let things ride as its not worth it in most cases
I hope you get soooooooo many whoopsie reductions in the next few months to build up your stocks again!!!!!!!
Are your electrics up n running again?
If someone has freezer space to spare, perhaps ALL the meat (mince, chicken, etc) could be cooked and refrozen for the dog for use over this year?:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

Thanks JJ - I can't face clearing it out and having to throw it all away
(but know it must be done so will tackle it later).
As for getting the electrics up and running again - errrr I haven't got a clue where to start with that:o.
I did try switching the power switch in the garage off & on (in case it had tripped?) but no difference - I really know absolutely nothing about electrics!:o
There's an electrician lives down the road who I know to say "hello" to IYKWIM but don't want to bother him at the weekend and will feel a total idiot if it's something really simple.
I may go and ask my next door neighbour and see if he can suggest anything.:(
I got some whoopsied chicken yesterday and was going to make a huge casserole later - but no-where to put the cooked portions now:eek:Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Don't worry about asking for advice off neighbours. They would understand your predicament.
You need the freezer up n running ASAP to rebuild your stock and also to store the cooked meats which needs to be done quite quickly.
Hope things pick up very very quickly for you.:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

Awww I have no practical advice, but feel so bad for you! *hugs*
I left my OH to his own devices for dinner last night as I went to a friend's. This morning I got up to unmistakable evidence that he'd been to the grocery shop! :rotfl: and when I asked him how much he spent, he said "um, about £12" and didn't keep the receipt  I know its silly to be annoyed he threw out a receipt, but its thrown out my spreadsheet I was keeping with details of everything I'd bought for the month. Plus he only bought crap - a pizza for dinner and milk (fair enough) but also chicken satay, a steak bake type idea, crisps etc! He's a great cook, obviously couldn't be bothered cooking, which is fine (even though we have TONS of veg plus some dinners in the freezer, obviously he can have pizza if he wants), but he is not OS AT ALL, sigh. OMG - even more :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: with myself now!
There are 2 trip switches (one on the main fusebox thing and another in the other one in the garage) that tripped ..... neighbour flicked them back on and guess what - everything's working again!
Relieved that nothing's permanently damaged IYKWIM but soooo angry that it never occurred to me at the time :mad::mad::mad::mad:
Plan for this afternoon - finish watching the F1 qualifying, bag everything out the freezer & take it to the tipand then dump it
on the way to Mr A (only need to go for milk which Al*di - where I went yest - doesn't sell).
*sigh* I really could kick myself for being so stupid:(Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

So glad it is working again.
Can't you have a cooking fest with batch cooking all the meat n freezing it for the dog? Dogs have incredible digestion.
If a freezer is full and the electrics go, things can be fine for a day or 2 as long as the door is not opened. I'm sure it would be fine for the dog.
It would do you the added service of filling your freezer space up to reduce running costs until you restock it?
Onwards and upwards...:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A
