How to give T-Mobile notice and then PAC request.
Options
Hello.
On 14/5/2012 i will be in my last 30 days of a 18 month contract with T-Mobile.
I want to end the contract with them and in June i hope to go to Talkmobile where i have seen a 12 month contract for 320 a month.
What i want to know is what is the best way to give notice to them as my last experiance with them was a disaster. If i give notice do i have to send any paperwork to them to confirm this or will a phone call do this.
I also would like to keep the number but i will be away in middle of June so is it possible to give 30 days notice and then after that change from pay monthly to a PAYG sim card with t-mobile and then when i come back from holiday ask for a pac and then port over to another network.
My last experiance with them 18 months ago was bad as i gave 30 days notice and at the end i was told that my sim will then be payg but never happened and i was charged another month so then asked for a pac and when ported to another network i was charged termination fee which i was told would not happen.
By the way during this time i got a new contract with T-mobile through mobiles.co and also got a new laptop via cashback but i want this time to go through without being charged/ripped off again.
Sorry for long post.
Vince.

You can't give notice and ask for a PAC. For a PAC to work you need to have the line active, and if you give notice and the account closes before you use the PAC you have lost the number.
Using a PAC causes the account to close there and then and as you did it without notice you usually have to pay a fee most liely in leui of 30 days notice.
You can port the number to a PAYG sim, and then on to another network but you may get charged admin fees or have a minimum top up to get the PAC once you are on the PAYG system. You say when the contract minimim term end june 14th if itt was me I'd be calling about the 15/16th of May asking for my PAC. Once I got the PAC I'd use the PAC to move the number ASAP.
Yes you'll have to pay for the time your away on holiday, and Yes you'll likely be paying an early termination or lack of notice fee as well as the new contract line rental, but to try and change it to a PAYG and then on to a new contract save a bit of rental is just increasing the complexity for only a little financial gain.
Something else to consider is mobile deal's change all the time, just because the £20 deal is available now it does not mean it will be next month, chances are it will be but if it's a promo deal or one to get a set amount of sales it may vanish next month.0 -
Thank you gjchester.
I wanted to know if i give 30 day notice next week and when after 30 days t-mobile will change from pay monthly to payg and then ring up and ask for pac as i will be away when changeover happens so i will not be choosing a new phone/cotract yet.
As i have said last time i did that i was charged early termination fee, extra month upfront even though i was outside my 18 month contract and they never changed over to payg as they said i had not told them but i did and they had no record of the conversation.
I just want help with the best way to do this as i dont want a repeat of last time.
Thank you for the help so far.

so say if your end of contract was 12thjune, you would ring up to give notice on 12th may?
would you request your pac or leave it a couple more days?
or use your pac code on 12th june and be left without a phone for the 24-48 hours that it takes to activate?0 -
Thank you gjchester.

If you ring you and give notice the account close 30 days later, The problem is if you don't reciever and activate the PAYG card it may close rather than transfer and your not here to fix any issues before you lose the number.as i will be away when changeover happens so i will not be choosing a new phone/cotract yet.

If you've had problems I'd sugest you simply leave it for now and move when you get back. Yes its a little more to pay but moving to PAYG and then out when your not here to check it's working (and you've had problems before) could be problematical.
You will almost always get an extra month added if you use a PAC as you'll have tpo pay 30 days in leui of notice when you close the aco!!!!.0 -
If you got a PAYG SIM from someone like Virgin who (as far as I know) use T-Mobile then port the number elsewhere when you get your new phone. Do this towards the end of the PAC vailidity.0

Number ports go through in the same day. Port out processed by donor network in the morning, port in by recipient in the afternoon. If all services not working on the new sim by 16:00 then there has been an issue with the port (most often the donor network not releasing the number correctly) and you should get in touch with the new network to resolve. Your phone must be in the UK on port date.
Or at least not in use outside the UK, if it's in a drawer turned off, all will go fine. If you're using it abroad things will go a bit pear shaped.0 -
Thank you all for relpying.
I checked my online account today and my account says i can renew, upgrade or change tariff so i must be on the last 30 days.
Do i have to ask for PAC today or can i wait to nearer the time i want to port over to new provider. If later will i still have to pay an extra 30 days rental from the day i ask for PAC.
30 days from now will be when contract ends so i want new contract with new provider on 14/06. What i mean is if ask today and port over 1/2 days before 14th June will i still have to pay t-mob another 30 days rental.
I did call t-mobile Sunday and ask but they said if i ask for PAC it will cost me early termination fee or when i use code i will be charged 1 months rental from the day i use it. I was very confused and ended the call.
Can anybody clear this up please.

And make sure that t-mobile don't charge you anything extra as they are known to muddy the waters:
T-Mobile just charged £15.20 for PAC Code
T Mobile want to charge for PAC code0 -
Hi.
I got off the phone to t-mobile half an hour ago and i am still mad.
I explained to 1 person what i wanted to know who said i will pass you to another department. Told them and they said i was best to renew/upgrade. I tried to tell them again and was told to get PAC and use it within 30 day will incure a charge of 1 month extra. So i said if i get it today and use today i will have to just 1 month as that takes me to the end of my 18 month contract and i was told no i will then have to pay early termination fee of 1 month. My dd comes out Weds for the rental in advance so using will get me an extra months charge but as i maybe with another network i would of paid for rental that i cant use.
I then asked if i use pac on about the 13/14 June will it be the end and the answer was no early termination fee but still i will have to 30 days after i have ported number. !!!!!!.
By this time i was well confused but he kept saying i can upgrade and not pay anything.
I asked to be put through to somebody higher up and he did in the end onlt to be cut off 10 secs later.
Is this normal for T-mobile or have i been very unlucky. ??0 -
Ring them back and go through the 'thinking of leaving T-Mobile' option.
Tell them you would like your PAC and they will send it to you if they can't get you to upgrade/renew.
You would only have to pay an early termination fee of one month if cancelled/ported out today, if you get a PAC and leave on 12th June for example, they can't charge you a 1 month early termination fee.
When you get your final bill check for any early termination fees, they've tried this on with me as well.0
