OMG MiT, so sorry to hear about your wee Mum. I lost my Mum in 2006 so I do have some idea how you feel. It is very tough to find a way to get through the days, weeks and months afterwards and to fill the time that they took up (not that it is ever a burden). My most difficult time of the day was when I got home from work, I always used to ring her straight away and it felt very strange walking in the house and not doing that.

Like you, I told my Mum everything (well almost ;)) and found it very difficult that she wasn't there to share things with. But you know what, I still tell her and I am sure she is looking down on me as your Mum will too.

I guess you are at her house right now, spending a last night with her. I am sure you will be talking of the happy times and memories and there will be plenty of laughter and smiles amidst the tears. I am sure you will all give her the send off that she so deserves.

My Mum once told me that nobody is dead as long as someone remembers them - hold that thought and keep her memories alive.

    Big, big hugs

    Maty

  • Another lurker. I've just caught up on all your diaries this evening and you have painted such a vivid picture of your mum that we all "know" her. I'm so sorry. I hope you are having an amazing family gathering. My mum died over 20 years ago; I still miss her and chat to her - and am so grateful to her for everything she gave us. Your mum was brilliant and so much loved.

There are no words I can say that would help you right now but please know that you are thought of very fondly by your 'followers' and my heart goes out to you just now.

Your so right that your lovely mum is at peace now (and pain free) and I hope you can take a just a little bit of comfort in that, thinking of you and your family x

The above post is exactly my thoughts. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. xxx
  • Good morning folks. Back to some sort of normality now. Mum's funeral was on Saturday and it was absolutely perfect. Her family were very involved in everything. THe priest was very fond of my mum and visited her regularly in the hospice so he was perfect to do her service as he knew her so well. THe kids all took part and they were so brave. My sis in law and I also did some bits and pieces. We all took cords at the cemetary. Her friend sang the mass and was fabulous. Her other friend piped her at the grave side. Just a perfect day. 125 people returned to the hotel for tea . I often wondered where people got the strength to sit through a service like that as normally I just howl at funerals but I was so worried about everyone else and that the service would go well that I actually sat and smiled thinking how happy my mum would be with it. It truly was everything she would have wanted.

Went to mass yesterday and they played one of the hymns we had had at mum's service and I howled then. HOpefully it was a wee sign that she has arrived and is okay.

MOney wise. I have no clue whatsoever. I have spent a fortune. Take aways galore. Food, drink clothes etc. Totally lost count. Once mum's money comes through then I can work things out a bit better but I have put £1k onto my CC and now have a £2k overdraft. This will get paid off and there will be enough money to pay for everything but there will be very little left as my mum was not well off. Not bothered though as long as my debt is not increased.

I'm off of work now for 3 weeks :D. WIll clear mum's house out ASAP as I know it will break my heart to do it so I would rather get it over and done with. It's a council house so I have 4 weeks to sort it out. I am going to head to my friends house over on the east coast next week for a couple of days just to get away for a while. DD then starts her new job the following week so that will be nice for me to be here for her when she comes home for her first week :).

So onwards and upwards we go. I will miss my mum hugely as I am sure you all know how much I loved her, but I have 2 amazing children who need me to pick myself up and spend time with them as there have been many times where their Gran has taken precedence over them. I'm sure there will be many tears but I am okay. THanks for all the lovely messages. Real life is the same and we have over 200 condolence cards, 30 odd wreaths and my house is like a florists bbut it all means so much to me and I appreciate it. I'll be back soon xx

    Trying to shift that debt!
  • Evening folks. NSD today :D. First one for weeks.

Went into mum's early this morning with my friend and we started the 'clear out' :(. Got all her clothes sorted out and will put them into the charity shop that raises funds for the hospice she was in. We raised over £500 at her funeral and as it is funded by charity we are going to try and raise even a couple of £k's to try and repay the care they gave to mum and to my brother and I when we stayed over.Very very sad after sorting through mum's clothes. The ones we had bought her at her birthday in March still had the labels on . I emptied the freezer and food cupboards and brought anything worth having home with me so we will not starve over the next few weeks. Going back in tomorrow to do some more. I want it done ASAP as it is just so hard and I don't want to prolong it more than I need to. Lots of people to help us so that is good.

Steak pie, potatoes, croquettes and veg for dinner tonight. First decent meal we have had and I cannot wait to eat it :D. I'll be back later xx

Sounds like your Mum had a lovely send off with lots of friends and family there.

Good luck with the clearing, I know how hard that is.
