Tesco - insulting and disgraceful behaviour

As a young'un working in a retail outlet, I used to completely ignore some people.
I would first engage them in a quick "hello, how can i help etc". If I thought the customer was a bit simple I would tell them browse freely and then let another sales person deal with them. I would ignore them.
Why? Because if they are a bit simple - ie. don't really know what they are talking about or if they are a bit 'so & so are doing x similar for cheaper' - then ignore.
WHy? Because I want a hassle free sale from someone who has done their research into a product & knows a little about what they are talking about. It saves all the hassle of "i didnt know", "you didnt say" "I dont know how to"
Go away. Let the other sales guys sell their product then deal with nonsense. I would move onto another sale. Less time dealing with complaints more time dealing with sales.....kerching kerching!0 -
Well, earlier we had a telephone conversation with the Customer Service Chief Executive (based in Dundee). It lasted about 35 minutes and it was all very civil.
His attitude was helpful right from the start. He had read all the details of the complaint and spoken to the Carrickfergus Store Manager. He was most apologetic not just about our treatment but also the unacceptable delay in dealing with our complaint. Unfortunately, however, he said that Tesco could not compel the staff to apologise. He said that he believed we had a genuine grievance but, of course, it was our word against theirs. CSCE offered his unreserved apologies on behalf on Tesco.
Nevertheless it was a pleasant change to communicate with someone who was prepared to take our complaint seriously. Out of four Tesco employees CSCE was the only one who really tried to help.
Near the end of the conversation he offered us a Moneycard worth £50. We had not asked for any recompense as our motivation was not monetary. We would have preferred no cash but a genuine apology. As stated above this was not going to happen so, having waited about 10 weeks for a response, I thought it appropriate to accept this offer as my partner deserved some sort of treat for the upset caused.
As well as buying a present for my mother and a good friend (both offered good advice regarding our complaint), we have decided to donate £10 to the MSE site charity. I have seen this mentioned on a thread somewhere but do not know any details. Please could a Moderator/Board Guide/Admin member oblige with advice, either on here or by PM? We have gained a lot from the MSE forums over the last year or so and would like to give something back.
CSCE was very professional and courteous and has restored a little faith in Tesco for us. We will of course never return to the Carrickfergus store but may consider selectively using the Newtownabbey one near Abbeycentre. There are a few necessary items which would probably best be purchased in Tesco.
Thank you for all the contributions to these threads.
So we finally achieved some sort of resolution soon after posting on the MSE and Tesco Blog site. A coincidence?0 -
Fantastic news NiteRider. I'm glad it is all sorted out now. Thanks for letting us know.

I only write this due to honeydogs inaccurate clarification. Honeydogs version of what's in my blog is completely different to what is actually in it! Honeydog will quote one sentence and leave out the rest explaining what actually went on. Honeydog assumes I hate my job!? would have left by now if I did! What a deluded person.
Look at Honeydog's sig........
.....Need I say more!
This is his blog.

I had let it go. My last post on this thread was 2 days ago then yesterday Timbo goes and edits one of his previous posts to have another go at me so I have retaliated by posting his blog address so you can read for yourself what his attitude to customer service really is.

I will attempt to let it go again and we'll see what happens.
But we have still been talking about customer service so it isn't totally derailed.
Don't grow up. Its a trap!

i've actully worked for tesco call center who answer telephone and written complaints, and no way has terry seen what you have written,it has to get past the "jumped ups im better than you's",,,then it goes higher up the chain, and so on....if you need a resolution call the number on tesco clubcard and ask for customer service...tell them you aint backing down til u have a resolution, and if it not in 14days then you go to the tabloids....
tesco are the most arrogant jumped up so n so's i have ever met..i have never liked shopping at tesco and then when i worked there,it made no surprise to me why...a lot of the people arevery nice and want to get further up the chain.but some are so josworthy it rediculous..if i were you,i'd phone.,...you'd an instant response and some of the people (me) are ok to talk too......i was on in the call center for a few mnths.cos of the team leader i had ,i had to leave,or i'd be serving time at her majestys pleasure by now......love to hear how you got on....!!0 -

When one person has a problem with so many people the problem is often actually with them. I wrote a similar comment on the blog you mention. I am not a current or ex Tesco's employee on from any other supermarket for that matter as assumed.
People don't react like that without a cause. If it's kept happening then I imagine the way you speak to them is the actual problem.
No offence, but this post is way too general, biased and unfair in my opinion!
Differnet types of people work at different places. Just because common sense would mean that its the persons problem, it doesnt mean it is.
I feel very sympathetic for the op as, as people will know from my own post a while ago, I had the same problem with my girlfriend. We were humiliated and called thieves (being accused of stealing a tv and that they had it on cctv, which they later denied!).
We started off very polite and we were spoken to like thieves basically! At that point I started arguing (calmly) with the deputy manager who called me an outright thief in a loud voice.
I wrote to head office, no reply, Wrote to Terry Leahy, who told me he believed the staff acted appropriately in the situation (exactly the same reply by the looks of it as the op in this post).
As a result? I shop in Asda now. Had a small bone in a chicken and received a £5 discount voucher. What would tesco's do? Accuse you of putting it there probably.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."
