Reminds me of a cat we found in our front garden one morning, an attractive ginger tabby I remember, lying on it's side, quite dead. It was a mystery how it got there or what happened to it when friend of mine later came up to me told me how someone he knew had hit the cat with his car while heading to work early morning, he'd picked it up and placed it in our garden and driven off.

I suppose he could have taken it to the vets, although as it turns out it must have been killed outright because it was lying exactly as it had been left, although in hindsight I guess the guy was upset/kind enough not to have left it lying in the road.

This is when we were kids, my father buried it in the back garden under the shade of the apple tree I remember. I don't such a thing as microchipping even existed on those days. Since we later lost a cat that never came back we assume was run over, I sometimes wonder about the family that never knew what happened to their pet.

Even without a microchip the vets will freeze the body and the owners can come and identify their cat.

  • My little lady has been missing for a week, I really hope that if something has happened to her someone was kind enough to take her to a vets somewhere.

About 6 years ago I had a kitten Tabi I was absolutley besotted with her she was hit by a car on Christmas Day morning the person just stuck her on the path and drove off.

I was devestated, I don't know how long she was left there, It could of been moments or a few hours.

So thank-you for not just leaving the cat there.

Yes, his happened to us a couple of years ago. Someone hit our cat and a lady who had just come from the vets saw him in the road and took him back to the vets but he was already dead. When we realised he was missing, DH called around and they confirmed they had a cat like ours there. We were hoping that DH would see him with his leg bandaged, looking out of the cage miawing 'where the sodding hell have you been? have you seen the tut they pass as food here' but he was gone. We got two new kittens and they are both microchipped.

Animal bodies are picked up by the council if they see them, or they are reported. They might keep a record of when and where the picked them up if anyone wanted to check.

Doesn't sound *that* mean to me...personally, I'm not having a dead cat in my car - and I'm sure as hell not having a half-dead cat in my car!

That said, I don't like live cats anywhere near me, either...

I don't think that *really* makes me a mean or horrible person...

Sorry yeah it does make you a mean horrible person...

Yesterday whilst walking my dog, I witnessed a cat who was hit by a car whilst crossing the road. It was awful and I know this really isn't about moneysaving, but I just felt I had to off-load somewhere.

The poor thing was injured. The cars stopped and I rushed over. I don't think anyone knew what to do :(. The woman who hit him was hysterical so another man picked up the cat and this other man stopped and said he was on his way to a vet so to put him in his car. However when the other man was carrying the cat over, he said that he thought he was dead and then the man in the car said, "well if he's dead, I'm not taking him, I don't want a dead cat in my car". What a horrible mean man and I just hope what comes around....

this poor cat had a family somewhere and no-one wanted to do anything - they seemed ok to just leave him there. I was crying by now, it was so sad. I then told the woman I would deal with him and asked her for a blanket from her car. I wrapped the cat up and took him to the vet. They thanked me and fortunately he was chipped so they said they would contact the family.

People disappoint me sometimes. This poor cat, I'm worried he suffered in his final moments and there was nothing I could do. He was gone within minutes

RIP kitty and run free at the bridge :A

You did whatever you could and that is all you can do, i was first on the scence once after a car hit a cat and drove off, I can completely sympathise
