Yesterday whilst walking my dog, I witnessed a cat who was hit by a car whilst crossing the road. It was awful and I know this really isn't about moneysaving, but I just felt I had to off-load somewhere.
The poor thing was injured. The cars stopped and I rushed over. I don't think anyone knew what to do
. The woman who hit him was hysterical so another man picked up the cat and this other man stopped and said he was on his way to a vet so to put him in his car. However when the other man was carrying the cat over, he said that he thought he was dead and then the man in the car said, "well if he's dead, I'm not taking him, I don't want a dead cat in my car". What a horrible mean man and I just hope what comes around....
this poor cat had a family somewhere and no-one wanted to do anything - they seemed ok to just leave him there. I was crying by now, it was so sad. I then told the woman I would deal with him and asked her for a blanket from her car. I wrapped the cat up and took him to the vet. They thanked me and fortunately he was chipped so they said they would contact the family.
People disappoint me sometimes. This poor cat, I'm worried he suffered in his final moments and there was nothing I could do. He was gone within minutes
RIP kitty and run free at the bridge :A

Doesn't sound *that* mean to me...personally, I'm not having a dead cat in my car - and I'm sure as hell not having a half-dead cat in my car!
That said, I don't like live cats anywhere near me, either...
I don't think that *really* makes me a mean or horrible person...0 -

So why post on here when the OP is obviously upset?0 -

this wasn't a debate about what happened, it seemed mean that the man was already going to the vet. Let's just hope that something like this doesn't happen to any pets you own or may own in the future0 -

Because the bloke's being accused of being "mean" and "horrible", having offered to take the thing to the vets, if there was a chance of saving it - I was just pointing out this was more than a lot of people would have done. Presumably, if he'd just kept driving, OP wouldn't be bagging him out on an internet forum...
I agree, the cat being dead is very sad...and I do appreciate the need to get it to a vets...and, given that the guy (who was going to the vets) was, apparently, a "pet person" anyway, I don't really get why he couldn't just wrap the thing up and stick it in the boot...but, eventually, the OP stuck their hand up to sort it out, so in the end everything got done. I just think it's harsh to call the guy names, when he was willing to try and help save the thing in the first place.this wasn't a debate about what happened, it seemed mean that the man was already going to the vet. Not being a "pet person", it's hard to tell. But I imagine I'd be more upset that the thing had died, not that some mean and horrible man had refused to drive it to the vets - even though he was going that way anyway!0 -
Jenny
I think you did the right thing, I would have done the same.
I'm also glad the the poor cat was microchipped so his/her owners will know what happened.
There can be few things worse than calling for a missing cat at the back door, rattling a box of his biscuits, walking round the neighbourhood, putting up posters.
You have saved the owners from that anguish.
Many people don't even stop when hitting a cat so credit to the woman who hit the cat that she did stop.0 -

Everyones priorities are different. A cat was hit by car in front of me last year. Truely harrowing to see, the cat was alive but in distress. I wrapped the cat in a towel and took the cat to the nearest vet. It clearly had a fractured skull and was bleeding out in the foot well of my car. Once at the vets, the cat was euthanised humanely and the owners informed. There is no way that my car was more important to me than a suffering animal and no way that I was going to leave it to die in pain on a cold pavement. At least I know that the owners found out what happened to their pet and that he was painfree and warm when he passed.
The OP did the kindest and best thing that they could.0 -
Just to repeat.
I totally agree with what Pollycat said you did the right thing and as heartbreaking as it is, what you did would have helped the family it's much better to know that wonder forever.......

As someone who was left wondering forever two years ago-Thank you for taking the time and caring.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Very sad, unfortunately it happens all the time. Like others have said, you absolutely did the right thing taking it to the vets as even though the cat could not be saved, at least the owner could be informed. It is disappointing how people could just leave a creature by the roadside or not bother, but luckily you happened to be there!0
