Rated Tradesmen Website

  • I have now registered with yourlocaltrades, a friend of mine mentioned it first, he said it all went well with him, (check my other post somewhere!) so i thought why not! I shall try and explain for the benefit of other trades:

I applied on-line, I recieved a call to ensure everything (my details) were correct. I now have to log in, pay registration then send or email relevant details for the vetting.

I asked how i get told about suitable jobs, he said log in and look as and when you want too, if you want an email now and again when there are a few to see no problem, if you want a text to say log in no worries, but you only "pay" when you see something you like. (£25 for five leads but you can buy more and they are valid until used.)

They also call the public on job submissions to ensure they are not time wasters!
All jobs can be viewed on logging in, showing type of work/post code/budget/when work is to be done. so before getting your money out for leads you can already see if they are near by.

Any job not suitable or deemed "illegal" will be refunded.

So for my £100 registration i am feeling like i have done the right thing, i would recommend them so far.

I asked if they had heard of other the other websites that are similar, but i was told "no one is similar to us because we do all four not just one" (im assuming thats the "rating/recommending/vetting/verifying thats on the home page?) so i take it they dont comment on others!?

I would love to hear from anyone else out there who has also joined them, feedback would be great, PM me if you want.

If this helps you then thank me!
  • I've been using workbidder for sometime now (http://www.workbidder.co.uk) like some of the other people in this forum. I've found it to be great and all the leads I get are genuine people unlike a few of the websites i've tried. It's quite a personal site really i suppose - not huge and robot like.

I just signed up for their text message service as well so get the leads emailed to me too. They also have a online messaging service which is really for those who are online more often and can reply to jobs online. I prefer the leads service though so don't waste too much time messaging instead i just give the owner a call and go around and quote.

There's a few of these sites around, some are just popping up but don't offer quality and are only out to get a quick buck. I've learned my lesson and avoid those like the plague. My reputation is worth too much to be associated with them - i've worked hard in this industry. Workbidder has led me to new clients who have in turn passed me on to their friends and the fees are unbeatable (£4/lead) and £15/year subscription for using online messaging.

Okay, well back to the grind.
  • We arranged a new bathroom through them. Turned out the fitter was a real cowboy, afterwards rated tradesman wouldn't even reply to our emails. Use at your peril !!!!!!
  • Yeah, have to agree - I wouldn't ever touch ratedtradesmen again.... and i'm a builder.

O, no! I signed up a few days ago. :( If anyone can recommend me a good builder - someone who can fit porches, in s.east london (around Bexley area) that would be great.

    Thanks!
  • New to this site. Had a quick look round and love it.

I have used BadlyRatedTradesmen.co.uk to ensure I didn't employ a bad tradesman when planning my project. This site probably saved me a few grand as I found a builder I was going to use- but turned out to be a crook- he'd run off several other jobs with their money.

Hope this helps. Can anyone suggest any other sites of use?

I think this is the problem with most of these sites as the tradesmen pay to advertise on there, so in the websites eyes honesty can be bought!

ill confess that im not a member of any of these rated trades etc sites im fortunate in that i have a steady stream of work,
but the one ive heard good stuff about is the federation of master builders especially as it is a not for profit organisation, and its heavily vetted
  • Problem with the rated tradesmen sites is you could give yourself 10 jobs then rate yourself as excellent. Then everyone else that subsequently use you have the wrong impression. If you're a cowboy builder you can then move on when you've done enough damage and taken enough money..
  • We are looking to replace our boiler, adn I have not been able to get someone thatgives a reasonable price as wella s accurate info. I ahve no problem with anyone or a company making an honest living, but I canot find anyone I am happy with. Done a lot of searching.
In vain I have email MArtin Lewis's team to see if a rating type system a la ebay or trip advisor would be interested in setting up.
I just wanted to guage opinions of MSE users, all 7m of them.
Good idea for MSE to set up?
It could be a variety of ways, but I think it needs the honesy and not for profit element with lots of users for integrity
    A good campaign to start?
