Rated Tradesmen Website

anyone heard of this?

I need a damp problem sorted and a new floor put in (which will entail removing and replacing kitchen). Not sure who to go to for quotes.

had one company out about 8 weeks ago and despite chasing, never heard from again...

I used this when I didn't have any personal recommendations to rely on.

Had a couple of tradesmen round from this site, both have been good, exactly as the recommendations stated.

Try phoning your local Trading Standards office - I think some of them have lists of approved tradesmen.

If you are stuck for recommendations form family and friends for any particular trade don't be afraid to contact someone you trust in another trade and ask them for a recommendation. They usually know who is good and who isn't.

Thanks everyone. I'm relatively new to this area so don't really know anyone.

I've asked for a quote from the site. the problem is that I don't know what kind of tradesman I'm looking for. I had a company that specialised in damp and building restoration round who said the problem was the way the extension had been built. Actually fixing the problem wasn't such a big job but sorting out years of water coming in would be. Apparently the floor is rotting away.Said I would get a quote in a week to ten days and never heard from again. Called them several times and the receptionist takes my number and says a surveyor will call - but they never do! Surprised as he said it was a big job. (ie expensive!)

I also looked at the vetted.com site but couldn't get it to work for me. Maybe it's not that well supported by tradesmen in my area. The rated tradesman site tells you how many people they have in your post code which is reassuring.

    Thanks again everyone

I did sign up to them, but wasnt very happy as a tradesperson, I am a decorator, and they were sending me jobs far further than I had said, and there was also something else in with the decorating, ie, tiling or floor laying as well.
I gave up in the end, and told them to take me off thier books, but for someone looking for a tradesmen, it is quite a good site.

I have found to my mind a better one, and if you place a job you are inundated with offers.
I was looking for someone to hang doors, within a couple of hours I had at least 6 offers.
It works on a bidding system, and the trademen have to bid for your job, or they will just tell you how much they want, some do offer riduculas bids, but you dont have to accept them, or you can, say for example, put in a maximum £500, so the trade knows you are not going to pay over that.

It is an English site, but they have a polish version, as there is a hell of a lot of poles who are registered on this site who want the job, infact I ended up with a pole to fit my doors, and the difference in price was amazing, and he done a great job, cleaned up, was careful, did everything right, and even washed his cup up after he finished his tea.:j

My friend has put out a job, and she has had about 12 offers in 2 days, so they will answer your ad, but some are not rated as yet, but its a chance you take, same as if you got someone from yellow pages, or an ad.
