Almost everyone would remove the nozzle from the tank to figure out why it had stopping pumping, they'd probably stand there squeezing the trigger with the nozzle pointing upwards toward the car.

Only the sort of !!!!!! who'd look to see if a gun was loaded by staring down the barrel. Darwin has a way of curing the world of such people.

Simple situation - their forecourt, their rules, and the same rules as you'll find on any other forecourt. If you don't like it, ride a pushbike ;)

But an ATEX class II device for use in an explosive atmosphere, not a Blackberry.
but a phone is still sending out microwaves in your pocket. What's the difference being in your hand or in your pocket?

you obviously dont understand petrol fumes lawless one
do me a favour dont fill up next to me in a petrol station whilst on the phone because you wont be doing it for long if you do
never heard anything so stupid as questioning why its wrong
and reading your past posts there seems to be a bit of intelligence there too among the smugness

Please provide a link to one single example of a petrol forecourt explosion caused by the use of a mobile phone. Just one.

Good luck. There is no risk other than in the minds of idiots.

Ok, not a forecourt explosion, but pretty clear proof that there IS a risk of a mobile signal igniting fuel.

Before anyone calls foul, the tinfoil is only there to provide a metal object for an induced EMF to be generated in (like your car does) and the card bits simply insulate it from the "ground" just as your car tyres do.

As the video says, it may take "a lot of calls":

So, pretty low risk but do you want to be the one who draws the short straw?

the idiots are the ones that say there is NO RISK,nearly all electrically operated equipment HAS the potential to cause a spark, a spark HAS the potential to ignite petrol fumes (however small the risk).that is why they say do not use mobile phones while filling up
the thing is if you can eliminate the risk then you do so,we are not talking about the risk of a little fire but a potentially CATASTROPHIC explosion.

I work around systems filled with hydrogen and if I need to tighten a flange I have to use special non sparking spanners etc,now this is to stop the risk however small of a normal spanner slipping and causing a spark

fools that use their phones while filling up have no regard for their safety and even less for anyone else's
