Thank you everyone! Don't think it's worth the risk. Trying to save money but losing a few days at work due to an upset stomach won't help!

    Chucking it out.

Not very MSE when they land you with the vet bill for making their dog ill.

Most of the time you'd get away with it - the one time you don't, you'll really regret it.

The problem is the toxins that bacteria produce. Toxins don't smell bad and aren't killed by cooking so it's a gamble every time.

    you kidding, lol.
Dogs have much stronger stomachs than us humans.
My dog eats raw meat, and old bones that the butcher gives us.
Mine sometimes find old, rotting deer carcases and eat off of them! Old, rotting meat is not an issue.

Yesterdays left overs will not pose any problems, lol!

I can understand you having doubts I would as well.I would be also loathe to throw out food as a rule but when it comes to rice ,having been extremly ill with reheated rice I'm afraid I too would bin it,unless of course you wish to lose a few lbs over the next few days
If in doubt ,chuck it out

My views on food waste are well known on here, but rice is a special case. The toxin produced by the particular bug that likes cooked rice is not destroyed by heat. That "dodgy curry" wasn't the curry. It has killed perfectly healthy people.

Rice is quick and easy to cook fresh each time.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

I think the op has made her choice, but I would add I agree with the other answers, for most food overnight in cold kitchen I wouldn't worry at all as long as heated right through before eating, but rice is special as above, the toxins remain even after heating. The shop made rice in ready meals is made in an ultra clean atmosphere and cooled super fast to reduce any chance of the poison. We tend to freeze the sauces/curries and make the pasta/rice fresh for meals, tbh pasta and rice stores so well dry and is so easy to cook can't see the point taking up space in the freezer with it for us.

I wouldn't worry I'm forever sadly leaving out leftovers! And eating them with no problems at all!

  • Rice is my only hard limit for this. A friend of mine nearly died, was in a coma for several weeks then unable to walk because of this. More than five years later he still uses crutches to help him get around.
