if you dont understand that of a 10 year old Italian car then i cant help you

I actually own a 12 year old Punto HGT (from new) with 65k on it and it still runs like a dream so I don't need help thanks. (It's my 14th Fiat BTW so I think I am qualified to pass an opinion on Italian cars!)

Err it's a sports saloon with a bit of street cred! OP says she is concerned about MPG and wants 4 seats. This seems to tick the boxes unless she specifically wants a coupe.

For the love of the baby jesus, no.

Its a saloon car from a company trading on its motoring heritage from decades ago. Its not fast, its not fun, its not sporty.

He didnt say it was high mileage, he said it was too old - and fragile - to do high mileage. Theres no way i'd want to do 20K+ miles a year in that. There are small south american countries that would take less to run.

Yes, you are right. I'm standing by my comments so pointless in continuing. I'll say no more unless the OP needs more info.

Back to the OP doing high mileage, to me more a concern would be fuel consumption. Diesels hold their value even well in to 100k.

In this respect i would avoid all the VAG group cars with petrol engines, i really have to follow an HGV to see 35mpg, likewise sub prolonged 7mpg easilly done. Great engines but thirsty.
S3 wont get any good for sub £7k.

High mileage i would be looking for an engine petrol or diesel minimum 2 ltr.

Throw one in to the pot http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201217466019651/sort/default/usedcars/price-to/5000/price-from/3000/fuel-type/diesel/engine-size-cars/3l_to_3-9l/make/bmw/page/4/radius/1501/postcode/wv67yb?logcode=p
