    Pollycat - I was just thinking, as part of the bargaining, mum could say, 'you keep your house and Ill keep mine'. Then get it sworn in quick and made legal. There may be a big pension pot, which if dad realises could be cashed in, but mum may be entitled to - or need to protect hers.

    And how close is bankruptcy, as that could be a big thing that could affect her more than him. The divorce may protect her.

    Im throwing the ideas into the mix. I think you are absolutely right that mum needs to get independent legal advice and the OP, who must be stressed to bits, needs to try and get emotionally detached. Easy for a stranger to type, not so easy in RL
