How did you put the money on? My daughter has been using one for about 9 months and has not been charged. She is with Natwest so I would think they work the same way as RBS.Just got my Passport-Globe, just beware, as i and others have stated here before, you will probably get charged for putting money on your card by yoiur own bank. RBS charged me £4.50 for putting £500 on mine.
My daughter has set up a payment on her account and just sends a payment direct via FP as and when required. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Why does a bank charge for putting pounds on the card?
Its in effect a normal prepaid money card, and they don't charge to put money of them.
I've bought cash currency before and sent money via Moneygram and was not charged anything by my bank.0 -

Not all banks charge when using their Debit Card for topping up Prepaid cards. But some do.0 -
Hey
Im going on holidays soon and ive been looking at travel cash cards.
My card is with Halifax and they charge 2.75% on the interbank (which is the best a consumer will ever get) visa rate, plus £1.50 for each transaction which is very expensive. I also have no credit history so wont be able to get a credit card.
The Travelex Cash Passport Globe seems like a very good alternative
http://www.travelex.co.uk/uk/cash-passport-globe.aspx
It charges (from what I can tell) 1.49% on the Mastercard interbank, with no other fees, including for ATMs. The card is also currently free.
However MSEs page doesnt recommend this card, even though it appears to have lower fees than cards like CaxtonFX and most debit and credit cards.
What do you think?
It is not remotely the best a consumer will ever get. Metro Bank in London is 0% (though you have to go there in person), and Norwich and Peterborough is 0% (you can apply online/via phone).
Plus Nationwide is 2% and there are a variety of credit cards that offer 0%.0 -

If you actually read what I said you would see that I was talking about the Visa or Mastercard rate being the best a consumer can get.
Metro Bank or the Halifax Clairty charge 0% on that rate.
My advice, read post properly. :money:0 -

We looked at the MSE guide and thought that although most recommend FairFx we were going to go with CaxtonFx purely because of the free ATM withdrawels as he will undoubtedly be withdrawing small amouts frequently ( considerably differant from when we go on our holidays!).
From wht you are saying is the

possibly a better alternative?
We will be topping up ( hopefully NOT) if need be from home via internet.

Yes, but again be careful that your bank's debit card does not charge for the initial topup.0 -
Best bet would probably be a MetroBank account with a debit card (if they take under 18's), if you live in London.stormbreaker wrote: »...anyone?
Otherwise the Kalixa card was the best pre-paid last time I looked, there's a £6.95 fee for the card and £2.25 ATM fee but you get the unaduterated MasterCard rates which will be pretty much interbank.0 -

It's not really the best, as it depends on your usage pattern.
Note the poster's comment:as he will undoubtedly be withdrawing small amounts frequently
But it would be the the only one of two that I would consider, the other being the Cash Passport Globe, purchased via TopCashBack or Quidco.0 -

Thank you! So just to confirm Cash Passport Globe over CaxtonFx or FairFx.
As you noticed it will be VERY frequent small ATM withdrawels, hopefully, and used for very little else. Possible max going on the card will be around £500 as he is staying all inclusive?0
